This post is about cybersecurity, OSINT, and privacy.
REMINDER
Today’s surveillance cameras perform very well in low light conditions. In theaters, or any other public space, never assume that you can’t be seen because it’s dark. You can be seen. You are being seen. You are being recorded.
THREAD: Some of you came across the HRW report last month which highlighted the killings of Ethiopian migrants on the #Saudi#Yemen border by Saudi border guards. It made for tough reading. To further understand what they go through and the cold blooded nature of the killings, I produced this #OSINT based analysis parsing through satellite imagery and TikTok videos, using the HRW's report & my interviews with two survivors. There won't be anything graphic here, just eyeopening.
As a reminder, I have a Github repo with over a hundred APIs for automating dozens of different #osint tasks: collecting information about people, companies, etc.
THREAD: This is a 2021 satellite image showing part of a typical farming village in a rural part of Ethiopia's Oromia region. A few thousand people lived here, tended to the land and cattle, a simple life.
In June 2022, it was the site of a horrifying massacre of 300-400 civilians. Armed militants affiliated with either the Ethiopian state, or the rebel Oromo Liberation Army, targeted the ethnic Amhara minority in the area and didn't spare women, children or the elderly.
THREAD: This thread discusses the December 2020 forced expulsion of people inhabiting farming communities in a disputed border area claimed by both Ethiopia 🇪🇹 and Sudan🇸🇩. #Osint data appears to suggest that Sudanese troops may have carried out atrocities when it removed hundreds if not thousands of Ethiopians from the Al Fashaga triangle. Nobody has properly documented the expulsions and there's not enough evidence to draw conclusions.
Just a friendly reminder that I'm not only seeking a new role in #ThreatIntelligence, but I also can do freelance work related to #OSINT, news monitoring, analysis, etc. To quote the late Miss Cleo, "Call me now!"
My latest story is the cover page of this weekend's @thecontinent newspaper. Catch my war crimes investigation which probes allegations from #Ethiopia 's month long conflict in its northern Amhara region. This is the first story with visual evidence of abuses by Ethiopian troops, & features eyewitness testimony, geolocation of a recently surfaced viral execution video & exclusive comments from a rebel commander we reached by phone. Yeah it's grim. I will CW from this point on. #OSINT#Amhara
#Xandr is one of the most important players in the advertising industry. Inadvertently, it published a document with about 650,000 advertising segments.
For weeks, we evaluated it in search of particularly questionable segments from the EU. You can find the result here:

From Ukraine to Gaza, livestreams have proven one of the most effective sources for tracking fast-moving breaking news events. Open source researcher Aram Shabanian has put together a guide to finding livestreams to monitor crises and conflict, with some valuable tips on what not to do.
The print newspaper copy of my visual investigation of an Ethiopian army war crime, published last month by the Mail and Guardian. Despite internet shutdowns and refusal of access to journalists and human rights researchers, OSINT investigations have been able to confirm that government forces have (and likely are) carrying out extrajudicial killings in Ethiopia's Amhara region. Aware of this, Ethiopia has continued to block access to its conflict ridden Amhara region. #Ethiopia#OSINT
'A new tool, originally developed to estimate damage in Ukraine, has now been adapted and applied to Gaza. The tool can estimate the number of damaged buildings and the pre-war population in a given area within the Gaza Strip.
The tool has already been used by a number of media outlets, but it is freely available for anyone to use and we have outlined its key features below.'
Hello everyone! I'm new here and here's my #introduction.
My name is Skeevie, and I am a beginner #OSINT investigator. I research various cases related to fraud and data leaks. My goal is to popularize #privacy on the Internet.
Here I will share my observations, recommend tools and talk about my practical cases.
Thanks to the update made by @fs0c131y , the NAMINT tool gives you now an additional possibility to search with an email address through Predicta Search. That's the power of the #OSINT community! 🙂
We've heard Twitter used to be the go-to place for the OSINT community, but not since Musk took over. Is that true? 👀 Do you find Mastodon better or worse than Twitter for #OSINT research? What are your thoughts on other platforms?
Since February 2022 grain exports from occupied Crimea have skyrocketed; it's widely assumed this is coming from newly occupied territories of #ukraine. A 'shadow fleet' exports it to Russia's partners around the world.
Despite attempts to hide, open source information can still reveal a great deal about these voyages.
In this case, we tracked two large cargo ships — new additions to the 'ghost fleet' — from Sevastopol to #Iran at every step of the way.
I just did a couple of updates and I haven't talked about it in a while so may I please do a quick thread on my web site MegaGladys ( https://megagladys.com/ )?
It's a set of eight tools made for getting information on people with #Wikipedia pages. Useful for #OSINT, #journalism, etc. Free, no ads.
