Finally finished... the Georgia O'Keeffe/organs jacket. Mostly merino/nylon from independent dyers. Spot the eyes, lungs, brain and hearts. The Georgia O'Keeffe references include the goat skull/flower, Jack-in-the-Pulpit, grey charcoal spirals and abstract flower close-ups (that's what I'm calling them).
Making #shibori pattern is one of my ultimate highs in crafting garments. I do my best to document the process every time it happens because it’s so time-intensive and I don’t know when the next opportunity comes.
This latest pattern is called mokume (I.e. wood grain), and it’s my first time doing it!
In our Sunday animations in the #culturalHeritage centre, I finished my #visibleMending project: a #secondHand jacket with a completely scuffed collar. For a better look I fixed 2 more patches. All people were very curious. Then the reactions:
⭕️ I would never dare to wear s'th with patches.
⭕️ I never had the time (but they have time for TV, social media etc.) @visiblemending@sewing
Second arm finished...I'm calling it 'heart on my sleeve' as I've managed to incorporate an anatomical heart and a swirly one. There's a brain at the top...
#fiberart#textileart
First sleeve completed apart from a bit of surface work. A lot of Georgia O'Keeffe-type spirals. Big shout out to all the independent dyers and spinners this yarn came from. When it's finished, I'll post links to them.
Work in progress! I have almost finished the outline and then I will create shades inspired by the #blackwork technique 😊 For the outermost outline I decided to use 4 threads while for the inside only one. The most fun (and also delicate) part? The details of the face and especially the eyes! 👀
#Yarnuary - my favourite yarns generally are Superwash Merino/nylon blends by independent dyers. This lot are all 4-ply (fingering) weight. The intense red is called 'Furnace' by @mothyandthesquid. Also love anything tactile and soft!
New art thread for 2024 starts here! This is a mostly daily thread with a different artist featured in each post, primarily modern and contemporary stuff since that's my thing.
Textile works by Tokyo-based artist Lindzeanne, 2020s, who became a fiber artist after she began sewing her own clothes and was introduced to slow fashion and visible mending.
Day 11 #ArtAdventCalendar. I volunteer in a #museum and #culturalHeritage centre. Marvelling at historical pieces often turns into inspiration. Sometimes I experiment with #perlage. Most of the old techniques are now forgotten and have to be painstakingly reconstructed. Here I tested simple 😁 bead embroidery. Crafting weird things once again!
Hand Sewing. I embroidered this glove while wearing it in 2017. I did this a few years before being taught embroidery. Because of how awkward it was to do, it took me about nine hours to complete. I was inspired by Méret Oppenheim. #embroidery#surrealism#TextileArt#IndigenousCreatives#glove
During my textile upcycling showcase, I unveiled these four #upcycled creations, worn by life drawing models and a renowned flamenco artist. Super stoked to have them come alive in their capable hands. Which one is your fav?

Ok starting a new art thread for 2023! Here's the deal: a mostly daily thread with a different artist every day (sometimes I repeat from previous years if I feel like featuring other work/projects), primarily modern and contemporary since that's my thing. I'm even making a hashtag for it in case that makes it easier for folks to follow. Enjoy! #art#BigArtThread
Textile works by American artist Qualeasha Wood, 2020s, whose practice explores voyeurism, queerness, and her experiences with internet culture as a Black woman.
