when a social media user complains about some incredibly minute things like it's the end of the world i have an impulse (which i've never followed) to ask "have you considered that you may be disabled while not having enough information to accurately judge whether you are in fact disabled? that would make your daily life difficult and miserable to the point where" (checks notes) "standing thirty seconds next to a microwave breaks your spirit for the day"
LA Times: Earth breaks heat and CO2 records once again: ‘Our planet is trying to tell us something’
"...Humanity is ignoring major planetary vital signs as atmospheric carbon dioxide levels soar to all-time highs and Earth records its 12th consecutive month of record-breaking heat, international climate officials warned this week...."
Y'know how there's a pattern of behavior where someone says something is bad about the tech industry or community or OSS software or something, and then every single nerd within a 50 square mile radius says WELL ACKTUALLY??
I just realized that if, like, even 10% of them just... Sat down and spent some energy fixing the problem instead of insulting someone for experiencing it, we would've solved all those issues by now
Most of y'all will never understand or respect the deep intellect required to function on a daily level that is manifested by a black woman living under the poverty level feeding 5 people on a shoestring budget. You want to change the world? Feed people.
Most startups fail, not because startups are hard, but because two affluent dudes from an ivy league have no context with which to understand what a problem worth solving actually looks like and they never will
@hazelweakly
You'll never see techbros create an app that researches and coordinates or streamlines the process of applying for all available aid packages. Or free training programs or services someone may qualify for. Because they have no fucking concept of what life is like for nearly 100 million low income people or those living in systemic poverty.
But for sure, an app that uses AI and video capture to improve your golf swing
I got home around 1 am after last night's performance and saw that someone had put a desk/table with nice metal legs and an oak top out on the street.
I've been needing a new desk, so I dragged it home.
I went out and looked at it this morning and the top is not oak. It is bamboo. It's bamboo stamped with a fake oak wood grain pattern. lol. I'll still use it though.
It seems like it's going to be very good other than my knees banging into the cross bar that connects the legs to each other. I think I will just take that out and hope the desk is stable enough like that
The stock market hit an all-time high today. But why?
Because data shows that the American job market is the weakest it’s been since February 2020. Which means there’s likely to be an interest rate cut. And an interest rate cut means cheaper loans for businesses.
Imagine a future where everybody is digitizing themselves and becoming pure information and the one holdout is walking around wearing a t-shirt that says "FOREVER CHEMICALS" in like a kind of ms word art style
@msquebanh Oh gah, it's that day.... :blobcat: I missed it yesterday. I remember it, I argued with my dad about it and nearly got kicked out of the house. My parents were so brain washed.
Every year since #Tiananmen massacres happened, I do #memorial#honouring ceremonies for lives lost. I will never forget them. I will never forget their living sacrifices. Whenever I feel loss of hope, I draw upon the courage of Tiananmen students & regain my own bravery. I will never forget their sacrifices. I will never forget their messages for ALL of us, to think & do better ❤️🙏❤️
"Yet Hillary #Clinton is proposing mass amnesty, mass immigration, and mass lawlessness. Her plan will overwhelm your schools and hospitals, further reduce your jobs and wages, and make it harder for recent immigrants to escape from poverty."
@RememberUsAlways
Trump's inauguration speech should scare enough Americans that they'd never allow him back into the White House. I was so sad after he did that and clearly showed that he wasn't going to magically become "presidential" like so many of the pundits were saying.
