I know I'm far from the first person to point this out but it blows my mind how people are going bonkers over AI and how it's going to change everything when every time I use it it just plagiarizes a pre-existing website
@AbandonedAmerica At a #tech meeting, last night, with bright young things working in #AI & one young man in his early twenties, who referred to himself as “the villain”, assured me it was 💯 % over for content-creators, #writers such as myself.
To prove his point, he boasted about #publishing a #book on #amazon , entirely ‘written’ by AI, which took him all of 5 days to compose.
And, to think that I was attending this meet up looking for a #job … Sigh
I keep hearing that “#AI will solve the #climate crisis.”
We don’t need new algorithms & generative AI for that.
We already know exactly what we need to do to address* climate change.
Our future will be determined by whether or not we choose to act. I’m hopeful we will.
*Note: “Address” as in achieve better outcomes. Not “solve.” Climate change is here. We cannot avoid it, but we can achieve a more sustainable & equitable Earth.

@ErikJonker Maybe we really should not overcomplicate things? We are well aware of certain risks (and impact) due to our experience with ‘conventional’ social media products (misinformation, discrimination, …). These particular risks (and impact) are potentially larger with #AI. So, it should be fairly easy to come up with common-sense regulations? I think that to a large extent it boils down to the following: are we willing and able to curb #bigtech’s market power this time?
@ErikJonker And why does the author think policymakers don’t understand #ai? This tech is fairly straightforward and the most important risks are clear? We really should stop mythologizing #ai tech.

And it distracts from the real harms racking up today.... algorithms using biased data are deprioritising black patients for certain medical procedures, while generative #AI is stealing human labour, propagating misinformation & putting jobs at risk.

Mir klingt es eher nach einer Schnapsidee. Offenbar wurde nichts Substanzielles geklärt. Solange ChatGPT nachhause telefoniert, kommt es für personenbezogene Daten eh nicht in Frage. Bei den erwähnten Zusammenfassungen müssten alle Fakten händisch gecheckt werden. 🤷♂️ #AI

Wie groß die Models sind, wird sowieso noch ein Thema, weil man deutlich schneller und kostengünstiger trainieren kann, wenn es weniger Daten sind.
