Following an update, my Pixel 6 Google Assistant started saying "turning flashlight on" when I told it to "turn flashlight on". I assume it would have made equally useless declarations in response to other commands, but I've already put a stop to it.

Had to fumble about in the settings to find it, but this should work for other Pixel users:

  • Open system settings
  • Open the settings search bar and type "Speech Output"
  • You should see "Full", "Brief", and "None" options; choose "None".

If you want to build an app in using , I highly recommend getting the Android build working right away so that you don't end up depending on anything that won't work on Android.

Literally 4 hours of total build time wasted on errors that p4a could have easily told me about up front. This is just plain badly written software.

This time it's because I left out --version thinking that it could get it from the pyproject.toml file like it does with dependencies. Nope; that's a required option. But it analyzes and builds all your dependencies FIRST, and then checks for the options it needs to build your package.

The dependency builds are cached, but the dependency analysis is not, so it'll be another 40 minutes or so before I know what else I did wrong. Garbage.

Many iOS users report losing their 2FA codes after updating their Google Authenticator app. Meanwhile, Android users took to Google Play reviews to complain about the lack of end-to-end encryption.

A screenshot of the Google Play Store app showing multiple one-star reviews of Google Authenticator users disappointed that the app does not use end-to-end encryption when syncing 2FA codes to Google Cloud.

OnePlus Pad looks good on hardware front. If it gets a privacy focused ROM it would be a great device

@og Recently during my vacation my wife used S23U for photography and she didn’t need her DSLR at all. Incredible camera. But for videos I still found iPhone to be better.

@og ya. They nailed it to the perfection in still photography.

I just uninstalled 50+ so-called "system apps" on a sub-$100 Android phone using Universal Android Debloater.
https://github.com/0x192/universal-android-debloater

It would've taken hours to identify the bloatware apps and uninstall them using adb.

@njoseph @jcrabapple oh will need to check this out, if it supports Pixel it definitely feels like it's a bit bloated and slow to respond

Okay, I will give Mastodon an honest try, thanks to @jcrabapple .

All I'm pretty much looking for is a good tech news aggregator and commentary with some sprinkles Android and Web development.

Any suggestions and recommendations on how I could make this an enjoyable experience over here?

You don't have to spend much to get a 5G phone any more... but what kind of phone do you get?

Here's my review (text and video) of the very affordable Motorola Moto G53 5G:
