#SphinxMoth#caterpillar eating a primrose at Anza Borrego State Park yesterday. These caterpillars were everywhere, devouring a range of plants. They are native and this is normal. Pretty soon they will burrow into the ground to pupate, eventually re-emerging as adult moths. #BloomScrollIng#BloomChewing
Testing out a way to play with video clips. Was just an experiment, then I ended up with a wriggly caterpillar and it felt rude to not do something with it.
An unexpected wildlife sighting today. This #caterpillar was crawling over a tussock on heathland nearly 300m above sea level in Highland Perthshire. Does any one have an idea what it is? A moth species I guess. #scotland
DIVESTMENT NEWS: Hayward, #California votes to remove Intel, #Hyundai, #Caterpillar, and #Chevron from its investment portfolio. All four companies are complicit in #Israel's #humanrights violations. It's time for other US cities and institutions to divest from #genocide and apartheid!
The #HaywardCityCouncil voted to divest the city’s stock ownership stakes in four #companies that have ties with Israel — apparently the first city in the Bay Area to take such a measure.
Found this fren on calamansi lime. Thought it was a cabbage white but it was actually eating the lime leaves. INaturalist says it’s the above and articles say its host plant is Lobelia.
I saw yet another cool caterpillar to paint for my Perpetual Journal: a White-lined Sphinx moth larva! Check out those awesome colors & patterns! (The Fall foliage art is my PJ entry for Oct. 15-21 for last year.)
The adorable Venezuelan poodle moth was discovered & photographed in 2009 by Dr. Arthur Anker. It’s supposedly the only sighting of this critter, but insects are small & Earth is big. So imagine the diversity of species we haven’t found yet…
This #caterpillar ate all of the leaves of one of my four o'clocks (mirabilis jalapa)!
Look at the fake googly and sparkly eyes on its back, and the fake sting, and the scale patterns on its abdomen! It looks like a #Pokemon.
Edit: for scale (haha!) it’s as long as my pinky finger.

The caterpillar produces secretions attractive to ants, and in turn the ants protect the caterpillar from predators and parasites. San Diego County, California.
