Modern #AI text generators create randomized output with no prior planning. They resist to be quality-checked by tools and processes established in the software industry.

Given this, the results are amazing. However, companies are selling the idea that these assistants will do quality checking themselves soon™.

This is mass delusion. But hey, the perks for managers/investors are worthwhile 🤷.

Those seeking to normalise the use of OpenAI's tech in academia also need to be extremely aware of this - tech industry critics should be very cautious indeed in using the tool, and universities need to permit choice in who uses AI such as ChatGPT and how. https://x.com/jason_kint/status/1793877818520068158

Meta’s artificial intelligence chief has said that the large language models powering generative AI products like ChatGPT will never reach human levels of intelligence, branding them “useful” but limited.

Speaking to the @FT, Yann LeCun said his team at Meta is working towards an entirely new generation of AI systems, that he hopes will create “superintelligence” in machines, capable of common sense and learning about the world in a similar way to humans. Here’s more.
