Is it worth having different accounts on different instances like as a backup?
I'm very happy where I am at the moment especially seeing the move/migration to #iceshrimp/#hajkey on blahaj.zone its a super cool idea :drgn_happy:
Just wondering if there been any times where an instances just dropped off without notice? It's actually my biggest fear with alot of things here on the fedi but I guess that's just the risk ones take here?
For #blahajzone folks wondering why our #Hajkey / #Iceshrimp and #Lemmy servers (with ~8000 user accounts between them have been struggling lately. We're gonna try a new strategy to contain costs while our usership grows so there'll be some further backend migrations happening.
We're also gonna be merging the latest #Iceshrimp changes into #Hajkey. Hopefully will resolve more of the bugs than add new ones.
And I say we cos while not a mod or admin here, I'm user #9 who's been here using this as my main driver for a long time. I know these gals IRL, love them both to bits, and even when we disagree on fediverse stuff I have never lost trust in them.
Tbh, I'm on a proactively moderated server that has preemptively kept a lot of the worst folks from being able to reach us queers here, and the feedback from a handful of black users here is that #blahajzone has also been generally been harassment free in comparison to other servers they've been on.
Imo, it's actually not to hard as a queer or trans person to find #servers on the #fediverse that will protect you from harassment, but that it is harder to find servers that will also protect indigenous, black, Asian users from racist harassment. And too many queer white folks get a free pass for ignorance tbh, a privilege that many of us have had for far too long.
It's much the same on #Bluesky where I haven't been harassed for being #queer and trans - again there's large communities and plenty of allies - but anti-black racism has been in the spotlight again recently and the devs called out for lagging behind on safety and moderation features that bigots exploit for harassment campaigns.
Far too many fediverse projects are led by men, mostly white men, who are lionised, promoted and financed by another layer of mostly white men. They ultimately get the veto on minority protections.
One of the problems with inadequate search is that I hear echoes of something that happened but getting to the facts is really hard. I don't know that this has the positive effects on community culture that some people suggest. Fact-checking seems important.
hosting his repository in the same server as some alt-right developers (something he immediately amended as soon as he found it out, but you know, historic memory is eternal)
not block alt-right nodes in his main server, and even repost a link to a news post one such server made, without actually going and checking the profile first
My follow request section has a blinking dot like there's something in there, but there isn't... How do i make it stop? #calckey#firefish#iceshrimp#hajkey
Ah, and we’re now going to be downstream from #Iceshrimp to focus on security and protection for users in minority groups (aka a good majority of blahaj.zone). Thank you for all your hard work and transparency, @supakaity!
I hope #Hajkey keeps developing for blahaj.zone and similar communities, particularly the long sought after #FediverseSafety features that never seem to arrive on the #Fediverse and become more important as greater adoption occurs and user culture changes - like the amount of transphobic users that Lemmy has brought here and the dev bros think this is progress. #Firefish#Calckey#IceShrimp@maegul
So after Firefish comes Iceshrimp and I am so tired of Fedi drama bullshit y'all.
I'm not averse to Forks. I'm on one right now: Hajkey, a fork of Calckey. But, man, it's gotta be done for the right reasons and I'm not seeing alot of those from the Iceshrimp folks.
However, Firefish IS already trademarked so....there is kind of a point here? You can't grow on a name someone else is using.
Hey, is "Twitter" now free for use? Let's call ourselves that.
But yeah, seriously y'all, if anything is going to kill the Fedi it's the ability of devs to keep getting into playground squabbles.
So as it turns out, there is a new "commercial-free" #Misskey fork in the neighborhood, called #Iceshrimp. I like the intentions (except the whole "not infringing on UK trademarks", IP is bullshit), but… why "Iceshrimp"? That's an even stupider name than "Firefish"!
If there's anything I hate in symbols and branding, it's when you settle on one just because it's the opposite of something you hate. Like, why do so many autistic people want red to be the color that represents them? Only because Autism Speaks chose blue. I think that's bullshit.
A big hello and welcome to all the new people who've joined #blahajzone the past couple of days. It's great to have you here!
Our admins are @ada and @supakaity.
Ada leads the front of house and moderation side of Blåhaj Zone, while Kaity leads the back-end and maintains Hajkey for us & a small group of other instances.
We also have a #Lemmy server available for signups at https://lemmy.blahaj.zone and a #kbin server that's soon to be open, for those looking for #Reddit - like communities. They can also be interacted with from here or other places in the Fediverse.
Antennas.
Antennas are effectively custom timelines. They work approximately like watching hashtags, but they can look for normal text as well. You can add as many phrases as you like and the results can be filtered with an ignore list.
You can make an antenna that just shows posts from specific users and notifies you when they post something new, you can make an antenna that collects posts containing or excluding certain key words, or you can make an antenna that collects only posts with files attached. You can even make an antenna consisting of “Posts from specific users” with “Show replies” checked.
Setting up
You can set up antenna by going to the More! section on your sidebar, and selecting Antennas. Press Add + to create your first. This is where you can also manage & edit previously created antennas.

4 & 5) When you click Add + you get this page to set up your antenna. I've set one up as my Calckey antenna and another to alert me when PastaThief posts. There's a lot to go through here. Expect a separate post sometime soon.
6 & 7) What those antenna feeds look like.
On our progressive web app you can access your antennas by selecting the UFO in the top right corner.
Clicking on the UFO button brings up all my antennas and the link to manage/edit them
