#QGIS should not be asking us #MacOS users to circumvent the built-in security checks in order to install it. It should install properly.

We should definitely fix this. Other FOSS projects seem to work fine with MacOS in this respect.

I would be willing to help out to fix this.

Today I learned that, contrary to my belief, there is Cut and Paste for files in macOS, not just Copy and Paste… and has been available since Mac OS X Lion!

There are just two steps after selecting the files to be moved, and the trick is on the second one:

  1. Press Command-C to get the source of the files
  2. Press Command-Option-V to paste the documents in the new location, and cutting them from the previous location.

See, for instance: https://osxdaily.com/2011/07/29/cut-and-paste-mac-os-x-lion/

Sigh.

The update to 14.5 "Sonoma" has been as unpleasant as expected.

After downloading many gigabytes, macOS got stuck for more than HALF AN HOUR, doing some undisclosed "Preparing".
This is just BS, I checked what happened, and a secret Apple tool named "UpdateBrainService" was slowly crunching away with a lousy 99% CPU. And that on one of the fastest Macs ever been built.

Really, , that is the best you can do?

And now, the Mac is crippled by dozens of "mdworker_shared" processes, because for EVERY SINGLE macOS update, as small as it is, Spotlight needs to reindex ALL DATA, slowing down macOS for many more hours.

Tim, you should be ashamed, really.

And now the real fun begins, because in the next days, we need to find out what NEW bugs Apple has added to macOS 14.5.

Are you using Cork? Are you happy with it? If so, I'd really appreciate if you gave it a review on Product Hunt: https://www.producthunt.com/products/cork-2/reviews/new

I'd also really appreciate if you'd review Cork on other sites, and even send word about it to your favorite Mac publications - every little bit helps immensely.

Without your support, Cork and its community would never be as awesome as it is ❤️ Thank you!

I totally love what the is able to see, such as this new and exciting image of the Horsehead Nebula, where you can see loads of galaxies.

Absolutely amazing!

The image from even contains a very detailled description, and metadata in the AVM format, which my NeoFinder for macOS software of course catalogs, displays, and allows you to search.

Fascinating!

From M4 iPad Pro review by @joannastern

"iPadOS is far less capable than macOS"

"It's like having the power of a Ferrari, but driving it on a golf course"

Read the words, watch the video. My 2 cents, I wish I could run macOS on that M4 Apple Silicon, or get an iPadOS redo.

I saw this article on Hacker News, and I've never felt more seen in my entire life. I gave away my iPad this year and I forgot until I saw this article - I always end up using my MacBook or my Thinkpad to get stuff done as the iPad is just utterly restricted at the software layer.

So, Apple has released 14.5, and as usual, we very highly recommend you wait with updating for at least one week, to see what glaring new problems and new bugs this new version introduces.

Apple was not able to add even a short list of changes they made, so proceed with utter caution!

Will I spend an hour doing a tedious task? No, I'd rather spend a week writing an app to do it for me.

Anyway, I'll be posting about my next small utility app for macOS, StringsMerge, which will let you merge two conflicting .xcstrings files.

His work will bring a11y support for GTK on macOS and Windows as well as for the new accessibility architecture on Linux code-named "Newton".

EXIF Lens Name, Camera Name, and Camera Maker.

And yes, you can sort these, too.

Thanks to @dimitribouniol and @glacials, we're much closer to the next Cork release! I was finally able to implement the first version of a self-compiled check, which was the only requirement left for the next release.

As promised, both Dimitri and Ben will be getting either a free Cork license or the cash equivalent, as well as a special shoutout in the contributors sections once the feature is fully implemented.

Earlier today, I shared the first prototype of starting and stopping services in Cork.

I've made some adjustments to it, including polishing up the progress indicator, and I think it looks pretty alright.

What do you think?
