For anyone using the native Mastodon web site/app annoyed by the HUGE boost/favourite notifications esp. when the original post contains a link card, there are two ways to get them out of your way:

  1. Find the Notification settings button top-right of the notifications feed (after the '🔔 Notifications' title bar button). Toggle on the 'Show filter bar' option.

Now you have a bar across your notifications feed - pick the 2nd one, 'Mentions', for example.

Tonight, I discovered that the “Volume should be turned down” notification on the iPhone has a really pleasant alert tone, which is ironic for the same reason I didn’t realize it before now: whenever I’ve triggered it in the past, I couldn’t hear it over whatever I was loudly doing on my phone at the moment.

The number of times I’ve tried swiping up to see on my only to accidentally scrub through whatever I was listening to and losing my place is staggering!

Is this a weird notification? It seems like a weird notification. It's sort of like the NYT sending me a note that they have exclusive footage of what happens when you drop a Volkswagen in lava or put a hamster in a hydraulic press.

kkarhan,

@rjblaskiewicz this is why I want to hand-pick and select who can sent me and for what.

I'm beginning to think I may not like .

Like what can it do that Simple Service can't? I know it's push based and that has it's benefits, and obvs it has integrations with SMS/email that probably come in handy, but those seem like improvements you could just make to instead of having a whole separate system.

@unifiedpush I love the concept of UnifiedPush, and indeed I use it with Element on with no Google anything installed (and thus no Google-powered push notifications).

However, Signal's push notifications work flawlessly on this same device, so clearly they handle their own notifications (and do a good job of it).

So, other than , what's the benefit to the end user of Molly over ?

Hey @element devs, getting for emoji reactions is very annoying. Especially when there's no way to click on a particular notification and get taken to the message or reaction it's related to.

A report by Common Sense Media found that about half of 11- to 17-year-olds are receiving at least 237 phone notifications a day, with some getting nearly 5,000 in 24 hours. NBC News looks into how these constant distractions are affecting young people today.

As I watch the ramping up of institutional in , it is yet another wave's reminder that, at least in Canada, is mostly a cargo cult science.

"The form is perfect. ... But it doesn't work. No airplanes land. So I call these things cargo cult science, because they follow all the apparent precepts and forms of scientific investigation, but they're missing something essential, because the planes don't land." - Richard Feynman https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargo_cult_science

We deeply need an IPAC discipline that takes transmission mitigation very seriously. We need an airborne revolution to get to , to

I know a few counterpoints, like Dr Victor Leung from BC who is a true practice leader in the field, but they are rare and rather quiet due to discipline pressure to conform to approved

If you are in IPAC, please help drive your discipline from a handwashing, droplet & contacts precaution compliance mindset to one that truely embraces airborne risk mitigation, if not elimination. Don't just transfer the risk to the patient, and wash your hands of it.

It might be my life you save. It certainly could have been both my parents.

So here is a conundrum I'm facing with @pixelfed Stories, you can like, react or comment on them right, and those are sent as DM's to the Story author.

Makes sense so far right?

Here is the problem:

Once the Story expires, it's deleted, and when you check your DM's, you'll see the replies but since the Story was deleted you won't be able to tell which one it was.

So should we store a Story preview img, or rotate the Story so only author can see it?

Feedback wanted!

Moaske,

@dansup @pixelfed
Maybe just focus on bringing basic necessaties like and , and bringing the app to their respective App Stores so the masses can start to explore ? 😉🤨

What I really need is to be able to configure my Android smartphone to only vibrate or play a notification sound once per, say, 10 minutes (or until I've interacted with the phone again)

There is no need to vibrate 20x in the span of a few minutes. I've heard it the first time and it's just annoying my coworkers.

Decided to give a go after being annoyed by not working on when it comes to .
We'll see if this'll work out.

One thing that I dislike is how you can't disable server-specific emojis out.
I just want the default set of emojis, not server admin's chosen ones... Same thing annoys me on as well...

And Tusky doesn't even have tabs for emojis to jump to regular ones and it's not vertical so that's a bummer...

Our #XMPP server is a very #effective platform not only for sending messages to other users, offering much more than just basic #messaging capabilities. It stands as a highly effective solution for transmitting #instant messages, #notifications and information from diagnostic
equipment in near real-time. It is useful for various use cases, such as #real-time customer service, voice communication, IoT, online gaming, and any scenario demanding instantaneous information exchange among users.

It's an amazing service and for $5 one-time fee per device, great value

My apologies if people think I'm not responding to notifications, I can hear their sound, but there's NOTHING showing up to see, most frustrating, I do hope that issue can be resolved asap! Apologies again, I'm ALWAYS grateful for all interactions on here!😊
