Google started showing prompts related to compliance with in the EU. Now users can stop from linking their data across Google services. Surprisingly, Google didn't use their ambiguous "Got it" pattern. Instead, they show clear options.

A lot of people overlook the visibility of their personal social media accounts with main stream social media like , , , etc that is outside the - the defaults tend to be very permissive.

Many, many different tools/scripts/bots belonging to a myriad of different organizations (data brokers and others) scrape data off . Especially if you are posting details about your personal life - think job related, where you live(d), pets, family, etc.

You can curb some of this data collection by setting your profile to private/friends only and limiting how people can find you with other bits of contact info (like phone number and email).

I know some in the community advocating for just deleting these accounts (with good reason), but this isn’t feasible for a lot of people. Lots of people keep these accounts for all sorts of valid reasons - even if they don’t use them often.
