Why does privacy matter in our modern world? 🤔 Let's dive into how our online lives mirror an Orwellian reality, where our every move can be tracked, analyzed, and sold. #PrivacyMatters#OrwellsWorld
1/ Privacy and security are often used interchangeably, but they're not the same. While they are distinct concepts, they are deeply intertwined and essential in our digital age. Let's explore why. #Privacy#Security
2/ Privacy is the ability to control information about oneself, ensuring that personal data is handled in a way that respects individual rights and autonomy. It's about having the power to decide what to share and with whom. #PrivacyMatters

Split tunneling feature has been disabled as it was leaking user #DNS requests - which can be used to ascertain browsing activity to whoever captures the leaked requests - since at least 2022.
Not a #VPN I would recommend for other reasons, but yeah - choose your VPN provider carefully.
Can I block the operation of an #Aternity browser extension by using a custom filter on #AdGuard on my router? Or perhaps using a @protonmail VPN config on my router?
I really don’t like my big bad business daddy digging into my personal health #data, communications, etc., & I don’t have admin rights on my PC to disable/remove it.
Google started showing prompts related to compliance with #DMA in the EU. Now #EU users can stop #Google from linking their data across Google services. Surprisingly, Google didn't use their ambiguous "Got it" pattern. Instead, they show clear options.
Changes won't take effect immediately, but on March 6, 2024.
Exciting update! I have just learned that @protonvpn has added VPN servers for Pakistan. Amidst growing concerns about freedom of speech, invasion of privacy, and rising censorship, this move is a game-changer. I missed the official “Data privacy Day” because I don’t social media on Sundays, but here’s a guide for anyone looking to get started on learning about/improving their #privacy.
🚨🎬 #Privacy Concerns about Apple Push Notifications
Research by @mysk shows that #Facebook, #TikTok, and other use push notifications to collect data about your #iPhone. Likely, this data is used for fingerprinting (and then subsequently tracking) users across different apps.
#apple claims it will implement “tighter restrictions” in spring 2024.
@Tutanota 🔒 Protecting my privacy is non-negotiable. That's why I've made the switch to Tuta for my email and calendar needs. With end-to-end encryption, my messages stay confidential from prying eyes. Plus, it's well-priced, making privacy accessible to everyone. It's not just about convenience; it's about taking control of my digital footprint. #PrivacyMatters#Tuta#EncryptEverything 🛡️✉️
A lot of people overlook the visibility of their personal social media accounts with main stream social media like #Facebook, #Instagram, #Twitter, etc that is outside the #fediverse - the defaults tend to be very permissive.
Many, many different tools/scripts/bots belonging to a myriad of different organizations (data brokers and others) scrape data off #socialmedia. Especially if you are posting details about your personal life - think job related, where you live(d), pets, family, etc.
You can curb some of this data collection by setting your profile to private/friends only and limiting how people can find you with other bits of contact info (like phone number and email).
I know some in the #privacy community advocating for just deleting these accounts (with good reason), but this isn’t feasible for a lot of people. Lots of people keep these accounts for all sorts of valid reasons - even if they don’t use them often.
This year, we promise to bring more features, enhance user experience, and continue to uphold the values of digital freedom and community collaboration.
Let's make 2024 a year of unforgettable memories, shared moments, and groundbreaking advancements in the world of decentralized social media.
