I use the timer on my Apple Watch a lot. I find it frustrating that instead of pressing on the big “done” in the middle of the screen to stop the timer after going off, I have to target the small x button in the lower left corner, which because it is very near the rounded edges of the Watch’s screen, is even harder to target. 😒 (I just now saw the Done label isn’t even centered in the circle :smh:)

“This has come up several times on the forums, but I've never written it up in a standard place, so here it is: There are only three ways to get run-time polymorphism in Swift. Well, three and a half.”

Hey all 👋 Time for another fun, little demo 🍿

Today marks the release of @daypeek's biggest update yet: edit your schedule and add new calendar events with natural language input 🗓️🪄

While I plan to prioritize @zenitizer for some time to come, I do plan to eventually port Day Peek to , and 🤓 (Please let me know, if you'd be interested in beta testing that if/when available)

In case anyone’s having issues updating their Apple Watch to watchOS 10.4 — mine stalled out before going to sleep last night at “Preparing…” and hadn’t changed by this morning — you can delete the download file from iPhone > Watch app > Settings > General > Storage > watchOS 10.4, then re-apply the update as normal. Went fine on the second try.

Got a this week. I have a lot of , but most of it won’t work together. Lol now I have a computer running , an 13 Mini on 17.4 beta, my Pixel Tablet running 14, an on 10.4 Beta, and an Fire TV Stick 4K Max and . I’m all over the place! Most of my stuff is in different ecosystems. Is anyone else out there like this? Lol sometimes I want things to work together, like being able to set do not disturb on one and have it go across all of them, but with all of them being in different ecosystems, I don’t think that's possible.

When you want to know the date so you check your watch’s date complication… (it’s the red one that starts with “FE…”) 🙄

This happens far more often than you’d think.

10, about half a year in (I think I used the betas?): I think it’s mostly an improvement.

Changing some of the basic interactions is bold, because you’re messing with people’s muscle memory. But I doubt Apple did that lightly. They knew this was a risk. A 10.0 is one of those rare occasions where you get to take the risk.

Apple’s latest 10 really devours battery life :( Significantly worse than previous major version.

It’s interesting to see the (not final) list of apps for and not get a sense that the era of companies scrambling to get their apps on the new platform is over. It feels like after the disaster that was third party apps, with bad performance and sluggish adoption, that companies are much more comfortable taking a wait and see approach to this product.

I wonder for a lot of them they are simply going to wait until or the other cross platform app platforms adopt it and then decide from there. https://daringfireball.net/linked/2024/01/19/youtube-spotify-vision-pro

I wonder if the 's user interface might herald a slightly less flat in 's other operating systems?

Note that visionOS replaces the slate-blue background in the first attached image with an adaptive ”glass” material (see attached video) that lets light through while muting background colors: https://developer.apple.com/design/human-interface-guidelines/materials#visionOS

Ever since v10, my heart rate tracking has been mostly broken when I use the fitness app to track a bike ride.

Start the ride, heart rate jumps to double. Stop, it goes back. Start riding again and after 10 minutes, heart rate jumps by 50%, then the heart rate monitor crashes/resets and after 2 minutes, it comes back to normal.

This cycle usually repeats itself 1 more time.

For those like me who saw that 10.2 lets you re-enable swipe-to-change-faces but have no idea where they hid the damn setting, it’s in Settings > Clock ON YOUR WATCH. The option doesn’t appear in the Watch app on iOS (where it might actually be searchable).

Tis the season for side projects... I started playing with @mikesheldon's baby_elephant app for . One of my first wants has been support for lists (because i'm still having issues typing on the watch): https://github.com/Elleo/baby_elephant/pull/10

My top wishlist item for watchOS 11 (besides a version of the Modular Ultra watch face for the regular Apple Watch, of course) is being able to use Live Voicemail on the watch. I love that feature so much and I just don't carry around my iPhone when I'm at home. Being able to access it from my watch would be perfect.

😿

annoying UX on our stove. If timer alarm is going off and you hit “OFF” button, which is what you’re thinking - “turn that annoying sound OFF!” - you turn off the oven, not the timer. Have to use smaller print “timer on-off” button.

I bake seldom enough I regularly hit OFF when I want the timer alarm that is STRESSING ME OUT to turn off.

I turn oven back on fast but it goes into pre-heat mode - max high element - until it’s up to temp (short, but very hot). This is the result :-/

@jimluther @GeekAndDad @octothorpe looks interesting! However avoiding kitchen clutter is a core family value😏

This post got me to:
1- Check how multiple timers works on watchOS 10
2- check to see that our microwave doesn’t have a timer function - it doesn’t. Apparently some do.
3- reminded me that on iOS you can label the timers.

I suppose I could finally turn on “hey siri” since she/that will start timers.

I just updated to 10.2 and am very glad that put back the swipe gesture to quickly switch faces. Now, Apple devs, please don’t get the stupid idea of removing that feature for no reason ever again. Thanks. 🤡

For anyone wondering HOW THE F do you enable swiping between watch faces Apple has re-added in 10.2, it's inexplicably placed in

Settings - Clock - Swipe to Switch Watch face

I would never have found this on my own.

Did you hate that extra confirmation dialog on Apple Watch when you finished a workout that Apple added in watchOS 10.0? It's now gone, but not entirely. If you found it helpful, go to Settings > Workout and enable End Workout Confirmation.
