"We spoke to hundreds of people, and were heartened by the majority saying that they had already begun to think of what they can do. Some had built a pond, some had left their lawn to grow long, some had made holes in their fences to allow the hedgehogs to move across gardens, and some had left log piles to create habitats for our beleaguered wildlife."

Not the best pic but my first of the Eastern towhee👍

Been hearing them the past two years but not had a chance to photograph. Very cute birds and I ran across it while it was singing its heart out so I got to watch its behavior for a while. Awesome first encounter 🙂

Riverside County: Prescribed Burn Scheduled at Lake Mathews.

Monday, June 3rd, through Friday, June 14th, 2024... CAL FIRE / Riverside County Fire Department, in cooperation with Riverside
County Habitat Conservation Agency, and Metropolitan Water District, will be conducting a a vegetation management prescribed burn at Lake Mathews. The prescribed burn at Lake Mathews accomplishes the goal of rehabilitating the burrowing owl and Stephens’ Kangaroo Rat (SKR) habitat through eradication of invasive, non-native grasses and weed species. Wasn’t sure the iPhone would be able to capture this, but it did a great job!

Spotted several of these latticed heath moths at a community wildlife garden today. Very delicate markings.

The Bartgeier, also known as the Bearded Vulture or Lammergeier, is found in the Alps and other mountain ranges of southern Europe. It has an incredible 3m/9.8ft wingspan or 1.4 LeBron James. Photo taken at Alpenzoo in Innsbruck, Austria. Alpenzoo continues to house and breed Bartgeiers as part of an ongoing conservation effort. #birds #science #ecology #biology #photography #nature #wildlife

Some good news - one of my other Robin friends has returned after being evicted from their territory by another Robin a few weeks ago. It recognised me instantly and came over for some food. This is either Hedgy or Hazel, I'm not sure which yet! They had a successful nest earlier this spring, with 2 chicks making it to adulthood.

My #Robin friend Little Mate chatting this morning in #Bath #Somerset #UK. His mate, Maple, is now on her second nest, the first one being unsuccessful. Little Mate is currently bringing her lots of food.

A very common Australian native - that we rarely notice. Kangaroo Apple produces these tasty looking berries - which I’m told are edible. Since the plant is related to Deadly Nightshade - I’ve never been game to try!

Tonight I had the good fortune to go on a short kayak trip. For some reason there were thousands of white caddis flies surrounding me and flying right above the water. At first I thought “I wish I could get away from these things and enjoy nature” and then I realized they were the star of the show. I was lucky to just watch their frantic flights swarming to and fro over the water while trying to live a full life in a few short weeks.

A ban on having exotic animals as pet would actually be the best to honour these 'magnificent' animals.

I don't think the owner was necessarily bad. However, if you are a pet owner, of any animal, not just exotic ones, the least you can do if you go away for holidays is having someone coming to check for your pets.

Since moving house in December, we have had very few birds in the garden (expected). At our last house, I'd be watching all the fledgling scampering around the garden about now, but here nothing until this morning when a Juvenile Pied Wagtail paid us a visit.
