Deer deliver in the strangest of places! If you find a fawn in your yard, leave it alone, do not touch, move or feed it. They have no scent and predators cannot find them unless humans interfere. Mom leaves during the day for 2 primary reasons: to feed, and to keep her scent away. Mom will return, but not until dusk and not if humans are around. If you discover the gift of a fawn enjoy the experience, and let the Mom do what comes naturally. Please share, thank you. #wildlife
I stepped onto the deck to check the bird feeder, looked down and saw mama in my neighbor’s yard (I don’t prune my bushes into Seuss shapes). I think there are more of them than us. Yesterday I drove down my driveway and a big buck was blocking me. I honked. He just stood there. I moved forward. He moved forward. We had a standoff for about 10 mins before he sauntered right past my window and eyeballed me.
We live in #wildlife sanctuary. They have free reign here. No fences. No guns.
It's December so welcome to the 2023 #dragonfly#AdventCalendar featuring a different species each day for 24 days. We start with a Southern Migrant Hawker. A fairly recent arrival in the UK; this one was at #CanveyIsland#Essex in July. They like ditches with very little water, even if they dry out in summer. They're huge compared to most other UK species. #wildlife#insects#wildlifephotography
Saw this beauty through the window, a 4-1/2 foot (~137 cm) Central Ratsnake (Pantherophis Alleghaniensis). It climbed up a bush near the corner of the house and I was able to get some close ups. I didn’t see a birds nest, so I suspect it was preparing to lay in wait for prey to ambush, which I’ve read they sometimes do. #wildlifephotography#WildLife#snake
This is an experiment with Mastodon threads. I post loads of plant photos here and thought that I might be able to organise them by garden using sub-threads.
Every time I add a photo, I’ll edit the head post of that garden thread, so if you like the head post, you’ll automatically get a notification.
You know how some folks watch #wildlife encounter vids & they're like - OMGosh, that's so cute/awesome how they're feeding wildlife from their hands/decks/cabin or car windows?
I'm like - Fuck those dumbass people who are gonna get more wildlife shot because they're #ignorant & #selfish#humans who want a great photo with wildlife more than they care about wildlife.
None of those kinda people "love wildlife". All of those selfish people only love to show off that they've been near wildlife 🤡
My adorable little friend needed babysitting again today. I placed a log in a strategic place as a makeshift baby gate to encourage staying in the ground squirrel corner. In the last picture you can see the injured mom doing her best to keep an eye out 🥺 #nature#wildlife#squirrels#animals#animalphotography
