She made a conscious effort to smile on the inside, to school her thoughts in such a way that she was neither muttering hostilities nor trembling with fear.
And the odd thing -- or maybe it wasn't so odd! -- was that when she smiled inside she stood taller, walked with an easy grace, looked at the world with open, clear eyes, and . . . smiled on the outside as well.

A friend of mine, who I actually met through my younger brother, is a writer. I’ve been following his journey for years. Shawn and his wife Maile are both writers. They have five children. Maybe six. I forget.
The thing is, they bought a little bookstore in Lancaster, PA. They might be the most wholesome people I know. Such an act of faith.

In the current story, she experiences a mental breakdown when events crush her worldview completely. [Spoilers, so you'll have to take my word on this.] Her understanding of what was evil, wrong. Her understanding of the trustworthiness of people, wrong. The goals she set to fix the magic that she saw as ruining others' lives... evil.
She's doesn't quite accept the latter. However, she finds it very weird to face the people around her without a deep down feeling that they will someday betray her.

Kaori the LI in my second novel starts the novel off feeling this way. She sees her destined romantic partner and allows her to turn her life around.
Shiomi/Shishi has this moment at the end of volume one of Konkini Idol. But I'm not saying any more about that since it is the whole driving issue and climax of that volume.
Starting point, Ending point. and some ideas of major landmarks. That comes out as 10 to 12 bullet points, character sketches for the major characters, and probably one or two scenes written. I invest far more time in the characters than the plot.

I was to be your escape but not fellow. I really believe you initially strapped me on like a JATO always intending my jettisoning and I think I was kinda aware and cool and ready for that and happy for your ascent. but at some altitude we hit some family radar and the product became a payload worth something to someone somewhere and when the waypoints moved on the HUD you just followed the new course. there was no cockpit announcement of the new destination no new ETA no forecast of turbulence no impact warning. shush a flower shush a flower shush altitude shush altitude shush a flower shush flowers shush water altitude shush.
