Based on the data, #Bitcoin mining is currently the highest user of sustainable energy (52.6%) across sub-sectors, and has also achieved the highest increase in sustainable energy mix (+38%) during the period charted from Jul 2019 – Jun 2023 compared to other global industries.
I feel like the CEO of Blackrock pumping #Bitcoin is a concrete sign that it's failed to exist as a useful currency to advance liberty. Some would argue it was never intended for this, but even now there are people who will sloganeer Bitcoin fixes this in the face of censorship and financial repression.
#MoneroOrBust? More and more I start to side with those that argue that currency is the wrong battle in the first place when it comes to attempting to hold the powerful to account. (pun intended)
I get a lot of people calling out my #Bitcoin skepticism (as in: Bitcoin is a worthless piece of hot garbage trying to kill our planet) because number is again going up. This time it's real, now that the scamers have been caught and all.
But if you want to know why Bitcoin goes up you just need to look at one curve: Tether has printed 4 billion USD from thin air in the last week.
While it's great to see the crypto scam artists SBF and CZ been caught and punished (sadly without making their victims whole) the actual rock that whole scam economy is built on is Tether. Has been Tether for years.
And I really don't get why US regulators let some weird company print fake USD.
The #SEC said it had not yet granted approval of spot-#Bitcoin ETFs, despite a post on #X/#Twitter that appeared from the regulator’s official account —Bloomberg
🆕 blog! “What is the user need for cryptocurrency?”
I was at an event a few months ago, where someone from the Bank of England was talking about understanding the user needs for cryptocurrency. One of the things people do when trying to create a new product or service is to write little user stories to illustrate the problem they're solving. You've proba…
#SEC Securities and Exchange Commission gave its approval Wednesday for some investment companies to offer “spot #bitcoin” exchange-traded funds.
The regulator’s highly anticipated move is expected to make bitcoin investing more accessible to Main Street investors, without requiring them to own the digital asset directly.
If a #cryptocurrency was more, not less energy efficient than the incumbents, faster and able to handle transactions at scale with less cost, would that make it desirable?
Another way of asking this is whether you see any other significant problems, with the principle rather than the #Bitcoin implementation?
I have long criticised Blockchain but am not opposed to decentralised electronic cash, and interested to learn if those critical of #Blockchain are fundamentally opposed.
#Start9 sent me their Server Pure for a review. They appear to be based on the @purism Librem Mini computers. Intel ME is disabled out of the box. I will have to tinker with this on #twitch tomorrow live but their StartOS seems to be great for those starting to do a #homelab and they are all about data sovereignty and you owning your data. It has options to setup #Mastodon and #Matrix out the box as well as #bitcoin and #monero nodes with #tor as well.
Incredible supply chain attack. Someone faked a #Trezor hardware wallet that looks and behaves like the genuine article and shipped to purchasers, complete with packaging and holographic seals.
Today is the day when the database that requires the electricity of a small country to stay online, rewards those operating it by cutting their pay in half, which of course means that everything becomes more valuable!
Aktuell laufen wieder Spamwellen durchs Land.
Meanwhile, it burns up vast amounts of power and uses a lot of water. Both scarcities. And this is not only allowed, but also encouraged. It is a speculative instrument only and of no value to man nor beast. The future is being sold of cheaply by the speculators, the ‘miners' and governments around the world.
