I don't think I've posted a full pic yet of my #Yuba#Kombi with #Bafang#BBS02 750W mid-drive motor installed. It's got a 48V 12Ah battery from #UnitPowerPack installed (form factor: #Hailong G56). So far I've ridden 45mi and the battery is at roughly 50%, so I'm expecting a comfortable range of 65-70mi per charge. #BikeTooter#ebike
@BrentToderian I'm waiting for some commenter to chime in that e-assist is bad because it means the user doesn't get as much exercise. Someone always does. And (a) it's not true, but also (b) who cares????
@leighelse@BrentToderian I went through this process as well (though at a younger starting point). Biking was getting harder, the hills were getting steeper, and I found myself contemplating taking the car more and more frequently....until the day I test-rode an #EBike!
I installed the new BBS02 motor onto the Yuba Kombi last night without any problems. Where I did run into problems was getting the battery installed. The hailong G56 battery does fit in the frame, but afaict doesn't allow sliding out unless I drill some new holes right where the battery plugs into the base. I obviously don't want to start drilling until I'm 100% sure it'll work, but also there's no way to hold the base down and test the battery slide/release without using bolts. 🤷
Much drilling later, and the battery's installed where I originally wanted it. Taking it in and out is not easy, but there's a trick to it. But will I remember the trick?
I might cut off or file down those cable stops/guides at some point because they are what require the trick. #BikeTooter#Kombi#EBike
I would love an electric moped that goes upto a max speed of 40 - 45mph safely, as a complement to my bigger #motorcycle. Instead my option is a class 3 #ebike which is ok but only goes to 28mph. I already have an M class license and ofc the moped wouldn’t be able to use bike paths, but if it can go upto 45 i would feel far more comfortable in residential settings riding alongside cars
starting to feel a little bit uneasy about the amount of eBike battery fires. Have just emailed the company to seek reassurance. As my battery is an original and renowned brand I don't really expect any problems (as I am on my second eBike and five years into owning one without any issues) - still, it is unnerving.
How do other eBike owner feel about this?
If there is a true mobility revolution, it is electric cycling: good for health, good for road safety, good for the environment compared to all alternatives but walking - and with more options for all ages!
How is it possible that Hamilton does not have an e-bike incentive program? It does not surprise from the Province, but in Ontario only Toronto has something in place.
Electric two- and three-wheeled vehicles have displaced nearly 1 million barrels of oil a day in 2023. That number is growing more rapidly than any other segment of EVs.
An electric scooter isn’t just an alternative to a bike or motorcycle, it can replace a far more expensive—and far more polluting—traditional car.
"As #ebikes age, they are quickly turning to electronic waste destined for the scrap yard along with old laptops, tube monitors, and old cell phones. That is something the industry needs to be prepared for. I hope there is regulation that will require companies to support these products for a reasonable period of time."
"A step #ebike manufacturers need to take is to make their bike sustainable for the long term. An (insert sigh here) analog bike could last indefinitely with regular maintenance."
E-bikes are the true urban mobility revolution. They open cycling to a wider variety of people and situations. E-bike incentive programs help get these in the hands of more people. Bonus - they also help build support for more bicycle infrastructure.
We have an Urban Arrow #ebike. This bike is ideal for my daughter with #epilepsy, since she can sit safely in the carrier and be part of activities that would otherwise be too complicated without a car, and inconvenient even with one.
The electric motor makes riding it super easy even with a passenger or cargo. The combined max cargo is 250 kg.
Sunak's Net Zero surrender is bad, but the previous plan wasn't enough. When it comes to cars, it isn't enough to just replace every petrol & diesel with an EV.
That would still give us air pollution (from tyres), congestion and road deaths.
Instead we need more e-bikes, public transport, car clubs and car hire.
is there a #CarryAlmostNothingOlympics hashtag? because I had to bop to the store for like four items. doesn't look like much, but I think these small bike trips are as important as the big ones!
under 10 minutes trip time each way. doubt this would have been much faster with a car honestly.
fossil fuels burned: 0
calories burned: probably some? idk, it was fun
For more than a month, since my cargo Lectric eTrike was delivered, all my visits to the grocery store (5 miles, roundtrip) have been on the trike. It's been fun, and my gas consumption (some trips are still too far, or time is a factor, or I need the pickup to haul something big) has been cut in half. Hope to do this through the winter. #EV#eTrike#eBike
Oh absolutely. I'd love to be able to get one and use it.
However, when we were finally able to afford a house last year (after 10y living in a trailer), all the homes in city limits or nearby bike trails were 100k USD above what we could afford.
We ended up in the county, in a non-dense suburb. Roads are 30-40MPH, and people routinely go 50MPH. It's just not safe to use an #ebike in my location.
That's really the curse of transportation in the USA. The store's only 3mi away, on roads that are patently unsafe to bike. So I'm effectively forced to drive. And it's terrible. I know it's wrong, but individually I'm powerless to stop it.
I'm not even in the town's limits to even vote on it. Couldn't afford to be.
