"Penises, Privilege, and Feminist & LGBTQ+ Purity Politics" may be my best essay of 2022 – it explains how heteronormative beliefs about sex & penises shape stereotypes of both bisexuals & trans ppl (including claims that we are "perpetually privileged") within cultural feminist-leaning queer spaces...

Next was a fabulous talk by Payal Arora on feminist design principles for the future of global work at @FAccT. This is a fabulous tour of the importance of incorporating feminist principles into work, work challenges faced in the global south, and the complex role that technology plays in simultaneously reducing and accentuating those challenges. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkgsmyUE52c (8/10)

Timi,

@VeryBadLlama I've heard men are depicted as lazy, stupid, clumsy, incompetent, vain, selfish, weak, cowardly, and inferior to women in every way, so of course, we should shut up, stop whining, and know our place, as the trash, scum, slime of the universe. So I had two men argue with me on a discord server. I posted a fun little VHS style video like the ones I've posted here. They argued that it was easier to purchase a VHS camcorder and/or route the file through a VCR + transfer it BACK to your computer then upload it.

Obviously using an app is easier, so I shot back. They later reach out to a moderator claiming I was "picking fights." I provided the receipts and the mansplainers both received warnings. They essentially told on themselves.

jeze,

Now what makes this hilarious but also sad is that these two men were SO SURE that their manner of behavior was correct they attempted to get me reprimanded for daring to defend myself.

online and especially in deal with this shit CON-STANT-LY. It's so normalized by men that when women dare fire back we're out of line and "picking fights." This is the reason exists and this is the reason women have fucking had it with the bullshit.

“Visionary feminism is a wise and loving politics. It is rooted in the love of male and female being, refusing to privilege one over the other. The soul of feminist politics is the commitment to ending patriarchal domination of women and men, girls and boys. Love cannot exist in any relationship that is based on domination and coercion. Males cannot love themselves in patriarchal culture if their very self-definition relies on submission to patriarchal rules. When men embrace feminist thinking and practice, which emphasizes the value of mutual growth and self-actualization in all relationships, their emotional well-being will be enhanced. A genuine feminist politics always brings us from bondage to freedom, from lovelessness to loving.”

I just watched this video by simply titled, "Men." I can't recommend it enough, if you're looking for a hilariously dry breakdown of the discourse surrounding the concept of "men's issues," that is also a compassionate and well-spoken call to action for building a healthier aspirational masculinity model.

I had never seen ContraPoints' videos before, but I will absolutely be subscribing. I highly recommend checking it out--and if you do, I'd really love to hear your thoughts about the video itself and any musings you'd care to share about what a new, modern could be. I have thoughts of my own I can share in future posts, but right now, I'd love to hear from you. Let's talk it out.

What I'm getting from current strands of non-neoliberal is a message about interconnectedness and how labels, binaries, and stereotypes are used to hide interconnectedness.

Framing a problem often means ignoring what's been left out of the frame. Moral and ethical discussions which take narrow views (rather than deliberately widened views) should prompt us to skeptically question "What's been hidden, externalized, stigmatized, or delegitimized?".

Episode 2 of Roar on Apple TV is so beautiful 🥹 A woman is held on a literal pedestal by her husband - anything else would be a spoiler. It's such a unique story that makes powerful statements on control, beauty standards, and self-image.

UPDATE : because OF COURSE, my ISP went down just as I was all set up to start livestreaming. The isp says that theoretically they'll be up and running again in am hour, but we all know how unreliable (and corrupt) Comcast is, so we'll have to wait and see 🙃 in the meantime you can still join our Discord and hang out with us while we wait on tenderhooks to see if I'll be able to bare my boobs on the internet today or not: https://www.toplesstopics.org/chat

I'm going to try to livestream in the "stream" room on Discord in a little bit while I edit some old #ToplessTopics videos for the new channel, since the chances of my kids bursting on screen is too great to risk doing it on Joystick...I'll also be streaming my face only on Tiktok at the same time, so if you'd like to show some support (and break up the pervert comments) on there as well I'd appreciate it :) Hang tight while I get set up...

Enjoyed TGF a lot: it's funny, wise, and practical. IJ was too woolly, insular, and essentialist for my tastes – and a whole book about masculinity that doesn't contend with patriarchy? GTF

Today in Women’s History, July 19, 1848: The famous two-day Women's Rights Convention opened in Seneca Falls, New York, promoted as "a convention to discuss the social, civil, and religious condition and rights of woman." Female Quakers organized the meeting with Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Many of the attendees opposed the inclusion of women’s suffrage in their Declaration of Sentiments. However, Frederick Douglass, who was the only African American attendee, argued strongly for its inclusion. As a result, attendees ultimately voted to retain the suffrage resolution.

“Seneca Falls Inheritance,” by Miriam Grace Monfredo, is a historical novel that takes place in Seneca Falls at the time of the convention. Lisa Tetrault’s, “The Myth of Seneca Falls: Memory and the Women's Suffrage Movement, 1848-1898,” argues that the notion that Seneca Falls was the birthplace and the feminist movement was promoted, in part, to help Stanton and Anthony maintain centralized control of the movement. She further argues that the Seneca Falls myth downplays or eliminates the role of African American activists and abolitionists in the fight for women’s rights and suffrage.
