@Senokir In general they are, at the very least, hostile to folks who do so. It's a main reason I use #Lotide (via narwhal.city) rather than #Lemmy (although there are newer #Lemmy instances out there now that I'm considering joining eventually)
@gary_host_laptop In any case, I'm not salty about it, because it's now configurable (which it always should have been IMHO), just using it as an example to point out the bias and pro-censorship leanings of those running the #Lemmy software project, who I believe are also running lemmy.ml unless something changed recently
@jax It sucks you can't subscribe to #PeerTube stuff from #Lemmy. Simply having the ability to pull hashtags into your feed would be a nice touch. Or just letting users subscribe to things via #RSS could help.
I comment on PeerTube stuff from #Friendica but don't see any (dis)like counts and only some of the comments. If the video post is looked at from #Mastodon, it seems to display all the comments, #Pleroma shows the same limited few as Friendica, and #Misskey shows most of the comments seen on PeerTube. But none show any (dis)like counts from PeerTube, the ones they do show are limited to how likes are distributed for that software.
As far as Lemmy votes are concerned, they display and function quite nicely within Friendica. I shows me the same number of both up/down votes as likes/dislikes as I see if I look at them on Lemmy.
Maybe one day somebody will unlock the secret for full interoperability amongst all ActivityPub services. Till then, we're just stuck trying to find ways around the limitations we have.
So, is it time now for "spread mastodon/fediverse" to adapt somewhat and spread the "#Threadiverse" (my moniker, fediverse for reddit-like platforms, eg #Lemmy and #kbin)
And to stress the need for help ... here's the core #lemmy dev calling for the load to be spread amongst instances as the core/flagship instance is being overrun: https://lemmy.ml/post/1147770
Would it be an interesting idea for various current mastodon admins to put up parallel lemmy (or alternative #Threadiverse instances)?
The lemmyverse sounds perfect, but it ignores alternatives like kbin etc. It would be better if we didn't end up with the situation we have with Mastodon where people assume Mastodon is the fediverse....
Even Nostr has a Reddit type alternative called Nvote
Nvote is a decentralized, vote-driven community similar to services like Reddit and HackerNews. Nvote is powered by Nostr (yes Nostr is more than just posting short or long-form social media text posts).
Why should I want to use this instead of a centraliz ...continues
Some of us follow different #Lemmy communities on different Lemmy instances right from here, Mastodon. If we comment a Lemmy post it appears on Lemmy so everyone sees it. 👍
You can use Lemmy also on your browser, but you can also use a app like Jerboa.
For Reddit alternatives on the Fediverse, I prefer #kbin over #Lemmy. Here's why:
Navigation: The top navbar on /kbin seems clear and precise, while Lemmy seems noisy
Posts: There's clear separation in /kbin with boxes, while Lemmy posts are not segmented and therefore bleed into each other.
Discoverability: Even though /kbin is used by drastically fewer people than Lemmy, it seems easier to find people across the Fediverse who discuss topics
The growth of our lemmy instance, without any advertising or spruiking. It was spun up as a test more than anything else, but it seems that it has become more than that!
Even though the graph shows the growth spike from April to June, in reality it's even more stark than that. We have gone from 20 users to 100 users in a week!
We'll be spinning up a kbin instance soon too, and when we do, we might shut down registration on the lemmy instance. We'll keep them up for now though, given the load on lemmy.ml from reddit migrations
@paul Time to cancel Reddit and move over #lemmy . It's 100% Open Source and part of the #fediverse. We did it omce with Twitter and we could do it again.
So, after Reddit- it looks like it's time to try Lemmy? I haven't joined an instance yet though I've been looking around. Also, is there a way to see all posts from different instances at once? That might be a naive question but I can't really tell from browsing instance views.
Differentiation in the Fediverse is starting to play out in more and more pronounced ways. For most users in the Western world, it is tightly linked with Mastodon. But the Japanese Fediverse community is growing extremely rapidly, mainly using Misskey. It has grown in less than half a year from 75k accounts to 325k accounts.
been searching "Lemmy" on Reddit since the API limits were announced, and I am seeing it pick up a bit. this thread on selfhosted was interesting because these are likely the ppl that would be setting up instances. talking about how #lemmy needs to fix up its docs, and mirroring some of the same criticisms as twitter v. masto.
Given the current furor over reddit and the changes they are making to their API pricing, I'm wondering if there would be a use for #FriendOfDeSoto#lemmy server? I'm probably asking in the wrong group. But I'm curious if it is something that would be useful to the admins of the @GreatestTrek subreddit in the future...
I'm hosting and running a Lemmy just for myself, and am having no problem with it. Lemmy is great. But I'm looking to branch out, and see what else exists out there.
lemmy.ml is overloaded, use other instances instead

China tightens access to Tiananmen Square while 32 are detained in Hong Kong (www.npr.org)
How do you see the integration of link-aggregation and microblogging?
Thinking about the future where Microblogging and link-aggregation sites on the fediverse have grown, how do you see them integrating?...
What do we call the Lemmy/Kbin Universe?

Looking for an entry to the Fediverse that's made for a single user. Preferably Reddit/Lemmy-like.
