I just want to educate y'all about this specific "scary" warning (that you may see in the Pixelfed app)

Apple Bonjour is a feature that enables seamless connection between your Apple devices

You can safely tap "Don't Allow" without any impact, however, that may limit Handoff support and other Apple features we're planning to implement.

Regardless, you can audit our app code yourself to verify we aren't doing anything sketchy

A question for those who design mobile apps: what OS do you prefer to design apps for? Android or iOS? What are the pros and cons of designing in each one?

No reason for my question other than curiosity 🤔

Why would the user be required to enable location tracking to sync data from their blood pressure monitor to their bluetooth-paired phone?

"Location must be enabled for readings to be transferred from the BP Monitor to your mobile device"
https://omronhealthcare.com/service-and-support/faq/omron-connect/

For iPhone users, a message appears saying they need to grant "always allow" for the data to sync automatically "within 1 hour"

As usual, it became clear that there were a few minor component adjustments that needed made before the rollout of the new update...go figure!

All's well that ends well, though I suppose...it's now live on ! Definitely a great feeling of relief to finally get this update out there to provide users with a much more polished interface design. 🙌 :android: 😎

I got my first call from someone on the Be My Eyes app that lets the sighted step up for blind & low-vision people today.

I’m a late adopter, having only heard about it this week. You register, & when time permits, you can answer video calls placed by blind app users asking for help seeing, reading, selecting things.

Thanks to the founder, a Danish visually impaired guy himself, for having the idea and going with it; & the people working there now.

It’s not often that a crowdsourcing app lives up to every hope the internet allowed us to cling to. Silicon Valley social media owners talk a lot about ‘bringing people closer together’.

But this - this is what that really means.

I've been postponing one / dev project, waiting for to enable apps on .

Since it's not coming until the next spring, with many restrictions it seems (just for the market), I was on a lookout for an alternative approach.

I came across one such option, even though a bit complicated for the end user. On the other hand, it doesn't require user to connect their mobile device to a computer. Looking forward to test it out.

There is a fork of Mastodon that has a bunch of features I know many people wish Mastodon had:

Ecko
https://joinecko.com/

• longer posts,
• more poll choices,
• favicon update from web console,
• markdown support,

...

I wonder if it is a soft-fork or a hard-fork. I.e., are they still pulling in all the latest Mastodon code.

melroy, (edited )
@melroy@mastodon.melroy.org avatar

@troed @reiver @weex well there is an Api. See for example the swagger docs https://kbin.melroy.org/api/docs (despite the kbin name, it's running the mbin fork). I know that there is a developer group busy creating a native app called Artemis: https://matrix.to/#/

Hopefully this will work soon.

So, I've decided to revive one of my old projects which I haven't touched for about 5 years. In the meantime, everything has moved forward, Android API, library versions, milion things updated. It took my about a day to get it up to date and running ... Uff. What an utter f***ing mess!!! 😎

the pixelfed mobile app (v1.0.0.33) will show "not supported" error message when making a new post. we are on the latest release [70e8203] and the app should not have targeted unreleased dev version

using web app will not have this problem. if you must use mobile app then we recommend version 1.0.0.29

One great benefit of being a designer and developer is that if want something that doesn’t exist, you can just make it.

The World Cup is the biggest sporting event that exists. Yet there’s no good mobile app to track the tournament. So I made my own.

The Women’s World Cup kicks off in 11 hours. I’ll be tracking it with my very own app. Lessgo!
