#AskFedi Anyone know of a good music library manager for Mobile Linux? (esp. Phosh/GNOME)

I like the aesthetic and background playback features of Amberol, but it can't do playlists or scrobble my listens to last.fm. I like the functionality of Lollypop, but it crashes too much and the UI/UX is awful.

Here's my criteria:

  • Adaptive for mobile/touch
  • Scrobble to last.fm
  • Playlists/Artists/Albums
  • Background Playback

Also being pretty would be nice.

Android 14 changed the color of the low battery icon from red to white.

Recently, for some reason, I've stopped getting "Battery low" notifications at very low percents...but I still get them at 30% & 25% (I have it set to start at 30%).

...so now I rarely notice when my phone is about to die. This has interrupted me on so many occasions.

My hatred of Android has been growing exponentially lately.

My phone, despite my best efforts, works against my wishes on behalf of others.

This is a device society expects you to carry 24/7 & acts as your primary gateway to both digital & IRL services. i.e. mandatory.

is a cartel colonizing the attention spans of billions of people. It must be broken up & the project should be put under the control of a democratic organization

cannot come fast enough. I'l tolerate any level of jank to never have to touch Android again.

@Lehmanator I have used as my daily driver for years. Easy to install on an open Sony Xperia handset. Not janky at all. Smooth and straightforward. All modern conveniences, no spyware.
I have used many other Linux phones and other alternatives too over the years and SFOS is hands down the best. Don’t waste your time. With Sailfish you don’t need to sacrifice quality or ease by switching to and you own all your data.
I blogged about it here

Some proprietary streaming apps such as Prime Video seem to work well on #Waydroid over #postmarketOS. There are still bugs with media playback clocks sometimes, but the streaming itself is flawless.

Got #Droidian running on my #Pixel6.

No calls or SMS, but quite impressed with a lot of the other functionality. Looking forward to playing with it and learning more. Thanks to everyone who has developed #MobileLinux and all the other bits that make it work.

I'm particularly interested as a parent with kids who will likely be getting phones in the next few years. I need to daily drive to convince myself it's the right option for them 👍

Doing some evening hacking, bringing up the @PINE64 #PineTabV with upstream Linux (6.8-rc3) with only a new DTS and no additional patch!

So far it boots with working console output and eMMC/µSD, but that's about it...

Damn, #PostmarketOS doesn't aim to include #Flatpak as a default app source?

Welp, there goes the idea of (paid) indie games for that mobile platform. 😐 Given #Flathub works on a payment backend it would've been best for #LinuxPhone's as a whole to go that route instead of doing their own sandboxing around apk. #MobileLinux devices will never get out of the niche they're in that way even if the GUI is ever so fancy.

Couldn't find hard info regarding #mobian or #ubports about this. 😐

Playing with the upcoming libadwaita dialog widget in Fretboard! Even though there's not much use for it outside of the about window in this particular app, I'm super excited about the new widgetry in general. It looks cool, and is going to make apps a lot more streamlined on mobile 📱️⚡️

Screen recording of the app Fretboard, showing the new Adwaita Dialog widget in action. An about dialog is displayed as a sheet popping up from the bottom at first, but then transforms into a modal window as the main window is resized to be bigger.

Today, after nearly half a year of development, we have landed the ability to select Wi-Fi networks from the top-panel.

The best part about this feature is, now that we have decided over the structure, we can implement the same feature for Bluetooth, VPNs, etc. easily.

A big thanks to @agx for his feedback, patches and review throughout the process!

Day 5 of attempting to daily drive postmarketOS Linux on a OnePlus 6T:

📸 I decided to leave my Android phone at home today, and I almost didn't miss it at all! The only thing I missed was the ability to snap quick pictures since the camera driver doesn't work yet, which is also the reason why there are no pictures today.

📋 At this time, some minor annoyances begin to show. For example, it's really difficult to copy/paste text because not all applications support long-press actions like on Android. And when taking a screenshot, it is copied to the clipboard. To send it to someone, the keyboard must be switched to "terminal" mode in order to press CTRL+V to paste the image, because, again, pasting by long-pressing doesn't work (yet).

🌏 Today, I didn't do much with my phone except for messaging and browsing the web, both work really well on pmOS. I can't really explain why, but even on such a small screen, having a regular desktop Firefox to work with makes a big difference. It's just so much better.

🖱️ I also tried out some typical desktop applications like GIMP, Krita, LibreOffice, Blender and even Godot Engine. All of which work in theory, but have varying issues with scaling and touch input. But it's cool to be able to just launch Blender on your phone.

🔋 One thing I can't get over is the insane battery life. The OnePlus 6T with Linux lasts way longer than my Pixel 4a with Android.

Day 4 of attempting to daily drive postmarketOS Linux on a OnePlus 6T:

📶 I felt brave this morning, so I handed over my SIM card to Linux. At first, the phone didn't recognise the card, but the wiki page helped me resolve the problem quickly. I had to increase the config value sim_wait_time and reboot the phone to make it work. Mobile data and receiving texts work flawlessly. I haven't tried sending texts and making calls yet.

⏰ Yesterday, I also used the Clock app to set an alarm to wake up and a timer when cooking, and it actually worked fine, even with the phone locked.

🚈 I also had my train ticket checked today. I was able to present the QR code without any issues.

Tweak your Phosh experience using css. Try my theme and maybe create your own by looking the code? I tried to explain the css paths.
It would be super cool if we could make collection of themes as community :)

Day 3 of attempting to daily drive postmarketOS Linux on a OnePlus 6T:

I had my first crash! I wanted to unlock the phone while waiting for some coffee to finish brewing, and after a few seconds of black screen I got this.

After a hard reset it booted up fine again.
