When the #white#neighbors found my landlord and threatened to call the #police on me, I could have been #homeless. They have not renewed my lease and being a WOC its much harder to find a home where someone is willing to house you even for a ransom #rent. When I say people are evil, they may not be horrible people at the core but they don't care about the consequences of their actions. They never have to live with it, we take the brunt of their consequences. #racism
… These are just two small stories about small cruelties in a small part of the world. My world. They’re not earth shaking – they are parts of the death-by-a-thousand- cuts that too many of us are facing as we slowly bleed away hope for a better now and faith in our neighbors … #nimby#neighbors#writing https://curiousmagpie.blog/2024/01/09/3659-nimby/
#Thursday#gratitude: my #neighbors (even ones with loud generators).
In the 30-some-odd hours we went without power, then had power, then lost it again, then got it back again, my neighbors set up a temporary work station for me and my convalescing #puppy, turned the produce from my garden into delicious chilled gazpacho, and, because they knew I hadn't had time or energy to replace any of my spoiled food, just dropped off a chicken pie.
Today, I broke down and took the push mower out of our gate to mow along the road. We live in a very rural area with a narrow road, and each of us is responsible for keeping the foliage from making the road even more narrow.
One of our neighbors, not one of the nice ones, was walking his dogs, so I turned the mower off as a courtesy.
My husband and Summer were watching me from the shade.
So he yells that he can't believe my husband would just sit and watch me work.
I told him that my husband's worth has nothing to do with mowing lawns and that he should work on his overall niceness.
Next time, I'm not turning the mower off.
People are too much. #Neighbors
How did you stand it? I would have been standing in my backyard 24/7 in a disposable Tyvek suit and mask with two full pallets of bug-bombs parked beside me...
