Being trans is not a mental health condition, but living in a transphobic society can cause or exacerbate mental ill health.

“We are a tiny minority who face discrimination on a daily basis. It's hard to date and nigh on impossible to get healthcare support We have to think about where we travel, which companies we apply for jobs with and every day trans women are judged on our appearances.”

What are the factors impacting trans people's mental health? Yesterday we posted about issues with access to healthcare and the knock on effects that can have.

Issues around employment can also have a huge impact on a person's mental health.

In our Trans Lives Survey 2021, 80% of non-binary respondents told us they’d experienced transphobia from colleagues.

so the bbc and the times (both far right in politics) after years of attacking lgbtqaai people have moved onto neurodivergent
There is a documentary out claiming lots of people are "misdiagnosed" with adhd/add
They did this by having a journalist lie about his symptoms
Guess what - if you lie to a doctor they will misdiagnose you
Let's ask why they did this?

and people have been around since humans (or maybe even our pre-human ancestors) could think about and articulate the concepts of and . With gender norms came people who defied them, or simply didn’t fit the definitions. There has never been a culture or a period without people, without non-cis people, without intersex people. We have as many names as there are stars in the sky.

As long as humanity exists, so will we.

The uncertainty of being stuck on a long waiting list can impact trans people's mental health as well as their careers. Money worries that come from being unemployed can then act to exacerbate the issue.

Jak told us: "I lost my job because of the uncertainty of surgery and when I was going to be called for my next surgery My mental health has been massively effected as I'm stuck, my life can't progress."

Despite persistent myths within the trans community to the contrary, it is NEVER too late to transition :TransHeart: :NonBinaryHeart:

Sure, if you're seeking a hormonal transition, starting on blockers before or during your first puberty will prevent some unwanted changes.

HOWEVER, most folks transition successfully despite having gone through a first puberty that doesn't match their gender identity.

The AG's office lost its request for an injunction to prevent the BMV from issuing "X" gender markers.

That means that while the appeal happens, the BMV can issue licenses.

“The Danish Girl” was based on the life story of Lili Ilse Elvenes, otherwise known as Lili Elbe. She was born in 1882. Her diary entries documenting her transition formed the basis for a book about her life. So, being trans isn’t a “modern phenomenon” after all.
