Power rail probes are a handy accessory, because they let you apply a voltage offset before the signal hits the scope. This allows you to look at ripple on low-impedance, highish-voltage power rails.

Commercial versions are expensive (https://www.keysight.com/us/en/product/N7020A/power-rail-probe-2-ghz.html). It turns out they're not wildly complicated, so here's an version.

Naming things is difficult, so I called it 'power rail probe'. Lots still to do: feedback welcome.

Ok, here's where my head is on the topic of an open vlogger's camera. I've designed a shell that will fit a variety of SBCs, sensor & lens combos, custom input systems, power sources, and rear display panels. The FreeCAD source file is to a large extent parametrically driven so that the shell can be rearranged for different dimensions without too much fuss. The idea is to take care of the fiddly camera bits and make it easily hackable for personal preferences.

I'm excited to play with the Open Book Abridged Edition. Thanks @joeycastillo for continuing to work on the Open Book project.

It's kind of delightful to pick up an object that tells you how to assemble it!

Republicans in US congress pushing to prohibit work on some / projects like to try to keep / give USA an edge over China.

Also remember: Lots of US companies seems to include standard clauses in their contacts that forces their clients to follows US export laws. So this is not only a US problem, it’s a problem for everyone who rely on US companies.

Has anyone come across any information design research project/group/community which makes infographics of supply chains of the making/manufacturing behind really complex biomedical devices like MRI and drug manufacturing, testing equipments like spectrometers, chromatographs?

With the aim of documenting everything necessary in order to make , alternatives to them?

Guys, gals, everyone, please consider either not posting on or at least cross-post it on places like your own blog or @writefreely , especially if you are writing about or . There are plenty of instances that are available:

You might ask why, the answer is simple: because it is restrictive for you and audience. Don't take my work for it. Read any of these:

Dear Fedi hivemind:

I am trying to organise a group of people working in academia (any career level, academic careers or technical) any that are working on and affiliated with institutions. If you are one, or if you know one, could you send me a message (or ask them to send me a message?)

The reason for the group is finding ways to work together and advocate for !

Please boost for reach?!

Thanks!

Thanks a lot @DragonBox for the awesome !

I have thought a bit about addessable RGB.
Could that design approach work with automatic placemement machine and a single layer PCB?

Had a blast doing some live listening/tuning/testing w Shortwave Collective for the 2023 Open Hardware Summit in NYC last night.

I was nestled between car bonnet, bins & bushes of North London with my DIY radio receiver + trusty pencil/razor diode combo at the helm… Attempting to use this beautiful old sign as my antenna…

@ShortwaveCollective

A really impressive black and white metal sign from the 1930’s for the Smithfield Refrigerator Works in London. The huge sign sits above an alley and is semi-attached to an Victorian pub built in 1890. Tinysound was trying to use this sign as an antenna extension for her radio receiver. The sign also has a huge tree shading it.

I was going to get an 5 but then I heard about the Sony deal and the and I think of all the people who've put hours and hours of their free time into a product which was (?is) and how the directions of that product will now be subject to shareholder rather than user desires.

Sure, we need to think about sustainability in all things but what's the bet ARM or NVIDIA will buy it out to shutter it?

Open-source headphones!
https://ploopy.co/headphones/
And studio-grade at that as well :)

You can buy them fully assembled or build from a kit, or make everything yourself. From reviews they seem to be relatively very cheap compared to how good they sound.
They run off of a USB connection.
These are open-back over-ear. I wonder if there's designs for a closed-back version...
