On the web interface PayPal just introduced a new dark pattern #enshittification to the transfer-balance-to-bank-account process to trick the user into electing the premium and quite expensive "immediate transfer" option, instead of choosing the free 1-3 day option.
When you initiate a transfer, this is now what shows up:
Brilliant! #PayPal now uses #HCaptcha too! SO I now can't log into it because no matter what you change the cookie will just not set, and they don't enable the text option. I apparently now need to switch to stripe to accept payments, I'm being locked out of a business account here because of this bullshit!
“They just literally stole money from my bank account. So they have now taken $1,592 from my bank account and are keeping an additional $600 hostage in the Paypal account. All donations meant for Gaza. They will not talk to me on the phone. Gave me no warning and have ignored my emails.”
I just had a surreal conversation with a customer service rep from #PayPal.
@dunia and I started a new LLC for our music & community work, and tried to open a PayPal account for the company.
We got flagged as a "risk" and banned FOR LIFE from using the platform. But they won't tell us why we were flagged, and there's no appeals process. It's totally opaque and arbitrary.
Guess we'll be using Venmo, Zelle, or Square with our suppliers and customers. 🤷🏻
Again I'm calling with #PayPal and the suckers keep saying this is totally normal :flan_laugh:
Getting locked out your account is part of te process now
Another guy just told me it was my fault because I was using the PayPal iOS app and that should only be done for "checking real quick" not daily use :nkoFacepalm2:
Little #PayPal tip - if you're ever paying in a different #currency to your home one, and Paypal automatically converts it for you, don't accept it.
Always pick a payment method that will pay in different currencies (often a credit card) and find the small currency options link, then opt to pay the price as-is in the foreign currency.
I save a couple of Euros compared to the paypal exchange rate every time I do this.
I'm setting up photo print sales on my site using WooCommerce. I'm offering PayPal as one payment option, but PayPal sets a cookie, the only one on my site.
Of course, if someone uses their PayPal account to buy something from me, PayPal knows about it and I need to be sent enough data about them to verify that they've paid. But PayPal doesn't need to track all my site visitors and their behavior, which I'm assuming their cookie would do.
Can I limit which pages the cookie appears on (e.g. only the checkout page) or otherwise limit info sent to PayPal?
If not, I may skip the PayPal option altogether, but given how limited my sales will likely be already, I'd hate to lose sales because of it. I do offer a check/money order option for anyone not in a hurry (latter can be a postal money order, so completely anonymous).
If you have a #PayPal business debit card linked to your PayPal account, (not prepaid services) starting Sept 12 2023 they stopped toping off your account and pulling funding from your linked payment sources.
If you have auto pay setup anywhere, these payments will fail now unless your PayPal balance can cover the charges.
You must now keep your account 100% funded manually for any incoming charges.
Google's passkeys, introduced in 2022, have become a popular and secure alternative to traditional passwords, being used over 1 billion times across 400 million-plus Google accounts. These passkeys, which rely on fingerprints, face scans, or PINs for authentication, are faster and more resistant to phishing than passwords. Google plans to integrate passkeys into its Advanced Protection Program, enhancing security for high-risk users. Additionally, third-party password managers like Dashlane and 1Password can now support passkeys, further expanding their use. The technology is supported by major companies like eBay, Uber, PayPal, and Amazon, indicating a shift towards passkey-based authentication as a more secure and efficient method.
So partizipieren plötzlich hunderte andere Firme
@PC_Fluesterer tja #HowPayPalSharesYourData ...
In 2019, a content creator and model named Belle Delphine went viral for selling jars of her bathwater. The stunt earned her $90K in profits, but PayPal then closed her account so she never saw a dime of the money until she wrote about it on X earlier this month. Here's more from @theverge.
@mutualaid Sorry for continuously posting this, but this is an emergency! If £9.49 isn't paid today, my phone number will be deactivated! I'm very stressed and anxious right now!
Looks like PayPal has locked me out of my money with a "no blind people allowed" sign. I'd be happy to retrieve the "accessibility cookie" except there's an error: "ERR_BLOCKED_BY_RESPONS..." Really? What gives? I have to log in to get support. Anyone have any ideas? #accessibility
@technocounselor Weirdly I just tried again a couple of hours later and I didn't get the CAPTCHA. Still it is fundamentally wrong to lock disabled people out of access to their own money and there should be a very special place in he** for people who insist on inaccessible design and code. #accessibility#PayPal#Fail
