I really love this UI. I am a commoner and not tech savvy. Currently, I am on floss.social instance. I use #PWA & #Fedilab. Can you please advise me how I can try this UI on my instance. @ktt
« Il faudrait réécrire toute cette appli web et passer par un framework avec des composants car on comprend plus le web vanilla comme ça ».
Déjà que j’exècre le #web tant pour ce qu’il est devenu que les technos de dev, mais si en plus les nouveaux maintenant sont infoutus de bosser et comprendre sans framework ça craint.
À se demander si on n’est pas en train de formater une génération de pisseurs de code qui va faire du hype driven development. :shibashock:
With all the work going into making PWAs work as well as native apps, why hasn't anyone fixed it so that icons in the dock get scaled to match the size of native icons? (The too-large icons are PWAs). The site owner can't resize them, or they'll show too small on Windows/iOS/Android. #pwa
What’s a good #Sharkey client on #iOS? It almost seemed like I was able to log into my instance on #IceCubes but it kept just pushing me back after the consent release. The #PWA works really, really well though and is actually better looking vs #Firefish.
Hm. I could've sworn #Discord asked me to install its #PWA, but now I can't get it to. I have always resisted installing the desktop "app" when it ran fine in a browser tab.
We’re reaching an interesting stage of #PWA development. There are now two #ActivityPub PWAs (= web apps) that provide a best-in-class experience to those service (IMO): @voyagerapp is a beautiful #Lemmy client, and https://phanpy.social is the prettiest #Mastodon client I've tried so far where push notifications just work, even on iOS. Pretty cool! What enables this? Technically, CORS enabled APIs, and improvements on web tech on mobile recently.
It might be a Sonoma thing, but I think Chrome has started using the maskable icons on macOS. 🤔 A colleague of mine installed @mattrbld on her laptop today and the icon was the same size as the others in her dock! Meanwhile, I’m stuck with the too-big one I’ve been bothered by for months now. 😅
In any case, that’s great, I’m all for more OS inclusion for #PWA.
You don't need an #app . Something for your newspaper? We have a thing called a browser for that. Something to order online? Why, people need internet connection anyway
You want people to get updates ? There's a thing called #RSS . You want people to have an icon to click to ? Just make a #PWA, you can even send push notifications these days.
It's better to make one great web app than make two shitty native apps.
I really wish there was a way for #PWA to open links in the default browser instead of the browser I used to install them with…
#FirefoxFocus doesn't have PWA support (understandably), but one feature I love about native #Mastodon clients is that all the random links I click on get opened in a privacy respecting browser.
I still haven't found a native #iOS app that's as good as #Megalodon, so I'm sticking to #Elk and #Phanpy there and yeah… 😅
The #IPFS companion app is a desktop app that runs in the system tray and manages a locally running IPFS node. It provides a UI which seems to be web-based. It launches it's own browser (likely Electron) but you can also load it in any browser, where it presents as a #progressiveWebApp. This means you are installing a locally served #PWA! 🤯
@schizanon I just discovered the extension firefoxpwa (https://github.com/filips123/PWAsForFirefox), tried it and quite like it. It's even better than usual #pwa support in browsers in that sense that it creates a custom profile for every app so that they can't share cookies and stuff.... #firefox
On the #mastodon#pwa, on mobile, how do you read the #alttext on an image? I see the little [ALT] button at the bottom of the image, but tapping it just expands the image and long tapping opens a context menu.

Looking for recommendations on a very specific project.
An PWA or iOS app that can work with a credit card swiper with a custom backend payment service. Open source preferred but all options are open at this point.
“So far I don't think there's any restrictions on which websites can be added as an 'app' on macOS - which is pretty much how you'd want it, Users don't really care that the website hasn't added PWA support.”
This! 💯 👌 Especially the “Users don’t really care” part is spot on!
I have mixed feelings about PWAs. They're the best way to get an app on a user's device right now (no app stores!) but the hoops you have to jump through...
