An elegant woman at the tram stop this morning hastily removed her red jacket and examined the back of the collar. Then she felt around the back of the neck of her gold-flecked jumper. I was politely not looking directly but watching closely with peripheral vision, wondering what would happen next. Something at the back of her neck was really bothering her.
With great force she ripped off a shop's swing tag. She was wearing brand new, elegant clothes and like the rest of Melbourne she is probably struggling with getting up for work in the cold and dark. I think everyone has been sluggish in the morning this week.
I continued to politely wear a poker face, but she knew that I had been closely following her spectacle. She burst out laughing and said she knew there was something bothering her in her clothes. I laughed too, grateful that she had given me permission to chuckle at her wardrobe malfunction.
Saint Mungo gazing out across Pollokshaws Road from Saint Ninian's Church in Glasgow, with the fish with the ring in its mouth below him, and the remains of a tram rosette (used to support electrical wires for Glasgow's tram system) just to his left. I've often wondered what people made of these being attached to churches when they were first installed at the end of the 19th Century.
An old tram track embedded in a cobbled lane behind the former Coplawhill Tram Shed in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow. Built in 1893, this depot closed in the 1960s, and now houses The Tramway, an internationaly renowned arts venue.
New at my Patreon... On High Street in Thornbury we noticed a striking old building - a surviving tram depot from the days when the local council ran its own cable tramway:
All #trams travelling along Collins St towards Spencer St have been stopped at William St due to a protest so I will walk the rest of the way to work #Melbourne
Some good news for anyone who loves RMTransit's public transport explainer videos, but doesn't like Google and YouTube.
Looks like @RM_Transit now has an account on PeerTube here, which you can follow from Mastodon: @reece
(If you're the first to follow the account from your instance it will initially appear empty. Videos will start appearing in your feed after you follow.)
In fairness to OpenSUSE, this was the only crashed display on the tram (all the others were still working), and it's the first time I've seen something like this happened.
This George Street tram is useful, but IMO the CBD stops are too far apart. It's a fair walk if you happen to be halfway between some stops (eg QVB and Wynyard). #Sydney#Trams#Tram
@luciedigitalni a consequence of thinking about a tram as a thing that travels between two places rather than a thing that moves people between places they need to be.
A new piece by me for Explore - in Lisbon I caught a bright yellow tram to historic neighbourhoods, as part of tour utilising both tramways and walking...
If they want us to come back to work in #Melbourne offices they need to put on a lot more trams and install windows that open. This morning's tram ride has been quite unpleasant and I was waiting at the tram stop before 8am.
I am not against going into the office a couple of days a week but am thinking of working from home all next week. #trams
