I'm asking for help. If you have the spoons to spare, could you help me find a replacement for this ceramic dish? I am hunting for an exact pattern match—"The Blueberry Plate," my 8 yr old niece's favorite dish. She accidentally dropped her plate while trying to get it to the sink. 16P Proximal Deletion Syndrome, another type of neurodivergence in my family, can make muscle tone, coordination, and proprioception difficult. THANK YOU!

What are you reading right now?

I am looking at starting a series by Yasmin Galenorn, midway through Wired for Story by Lisa Cron, and reading a study guide for case management. I’m a mood reader.

Was deeply engaged in a difficult conversation today when a book caught my attention across the room. “Is that Unmasking Autism? I read that earlier this year.” It was an optional opening for optional disclosure. It changed the questions he felt comfortable asking, changed how I provided education, and it ended be a deeply satisfying and helpful exchange. Today was a real win. @bookstodon

When you’re an independent author, you are your own marketing team! And my marketing team forgot to post my weekly Late-Idenified : A Starter Workbook post.

I asked my marketing team to make a plan for next week. When no satisfactory plan could be found due to a fortune cookie was consulted. “Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.”

TW: homophobia

I wanted to share a couple of the violent and homophobic responses I received after talking about my spouse of 20 years. We are an Out, Queer, Neurodivergent couple—this will not be the first or the last time I receive comments like this. This sort of behavior is not acceptable and the community should be aware of these screen names.

Today I’m in the process of resetting my project management system for quarter 3 (Q3). I’ve had people tell me they’d rather pull their own teeth out than do a project management at home. 🤷🏼 This process for me is very satisfying—color coded—and most of all, it works for me. Do what works for you!

Did you know that if you live in the US, you can ask your to order ? Budget constraints exist, but if we don't ask for our bookstores and public libraries to carry books written by for autistics, many voices are missing from the digital & physical spaces. Please consider how your requests help diversify what is available publically and keep expanding your requests to include more voices.

I love my cats. I anthropomorphize them. They provide a quiet, steady companionship and comfort I cannot find in people. They comprise a fundamental part of my home and routine. When something is wrong with my cats, the world is wrong—everything about my day and life is broken without them. Please have compassion for those that grieve for and love their animals. @actuallyautistic

I binge-read The Murderbot Diaries (1-7) by @marthawells, and now there are no more out, and I'm feeling unmoored. I have a very long TBR list, but... I want more Murderbot. Difficulty with social reciprocity, comfort in rewatching favorite series, disliking eye contact or touch, and so much more. I get why reviews say this series is "one of the most human experiences you can have in sci-fi."

If you read large print or dyslexic font paperback books do you prefer this to be indicated on the cover (say on a banner at the top) to help you identify the accommodation?

I compiled a quick poll based on different perspectives I've read.

I had an interesting conversation with a good friend about states that require diagnosis of to be registered with the state and the future implications this could have paired with laws that restrict access to care for people. I’m only familiar with a couple of states that require registration and that’s New Jersey and North Dakota.

What inspired Late-Identified AuDHD: A Starter Workbook?

My notes from my early in the (autism +ADHD) AuDHD diagnosis process…short essays, drawings, notes, and tables of information I created as I processed what I learned about being from the world around me. I lent those notes out and after feedback… some of it turned into a workbook.

The airport ia a brain trap for me. While the routine is getting easier, I still inevitably ask questions or blurt something out that get me into a situation that causes delays—especially through TSA. Sometimes this causes unexpected laughter and other times not so much. @actuallyautistic

I am trying to track down an article published by Dinah Murray with the hopes of reading about the progression of the theory of .

Does anyone know what database it might live in? I gave Google Scholar and Pubmed a go.

I want to start with:

Author/Writing Retreat Day 1- We took a long break from writing to see the ocean. I’m utterly fascinated and soothed by water. It’s easy for me to spend hours lost in my head by the shore where I live, but we have a well protected bay at home not the open ocean. Here it’s long stretches of the Pacific. I watched the white caps until it was time to leave and even now at the B&B I can hear the ocean waves.

@actuallyautistic This morning I was called a yokel, a word I have not heard outside of old television in my lifetime until now—among other labels. When I asked them to clarify how they used yokel, the coworker identified many visible traits they had been noting since we met yesterday, paired with appearing young. I had the opportunity to correct them and let my skillset speak for me throughout the day. @audhd

Sometimes I bookmark social media posts that I want to respond to but need additional time to consider because my understanding is still unfolding. I may look through the dictionary or urban dictionary, try to find further social context, ask myself if I am being too literal, and then I'm lost in thought or have fallen into a rabbit hole. I do this offline too. Sometimes that means I may never enter the conversation.

Glossy cover versus matte. I hate the feel of the matte and my spouse loves it. I’m not sure which is better for the majority of us. Matte is what’s up on Amazon for now, but the color saturation of the glossy one is so appealing.

Two copies of Late-Identified AuDHD laid side by side. One is cover is glossy (front side) and one is matte (back side).

@actuallyautistic Have you seen this resource yet?

“The Autism Books by Autistic Authors Project is an (ongoing) attempt to catalogue all books — non-fiction and fiction — written about and related to autism by Autistic authors.”

There are over 1,000 books catalogued! Including mine and other authors I see in my feed here on Mastodon.

I’m in the middle of a big move to a small rental & I almost missed Late-Identified AuDHD’s first birthday. ALMOST!

About thirty minutes to midnight I looked at my bookshelf, saw my 1st copy, remembered I forgot to do a cover reveal for the upcoming second edition, and decided to celebrate with a post and a Reese’s egg.

Moving, meltdowns, shutdowns, strain—none of that is fun—but this egg? Systematically peeling it is joy.
