As a sunrise photographer in the Blue Ridge Mountains, I love that I usually have a few extra minutes to get to my location before the sun rises above the horizon. In this shot, the sun had just come up over the earth's sea level horizon, but it would be another 8 minutes before it came up over the mountain top. The light was dazzling and dramatic!

A couple years ago, I was out in the middle of a snow storm, getting as many photographs as I could. On my way home, I spotted the Norfolk Southern 1198 train just sitting on the tracks. The engines were idling, and when they turned on the lights, I knew they were getting ready to move on.

Eight minutes after the sun rose above the earth's sea level horizon, it rose over the top of Sharp Top Mountain. It really is very exciting to watch the light as the sun creeps closer to the visible horizon, waiting for it to burst into view!

A fisherman was headed back to shore shortly after sunrise. Smith Mountain Lake is in central Virginia approximately 35 miles from either Lynchburg or Roanoke. It's a popular vacation spot for people to enjoy fishing and water sports.

In the early morning on Otter Creek in the Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia, the peaceful atmosphere was soothing. The warm brown hues under the morning light created a unique and charming view, different from the usual mountain scenery on the Parkway.

Missing my home state of Michigan these days. I made 3 roundtrip road trips to and from Michigan in 2022, driving over the Mackinac Bridge each time. Using my dashboard mount for my iPhone14 and hands-free voice commands to get the shots, I got some fantastic shots while crossing. I'm approaching the first tower and you can see the second tower up ahead.

The length of the main span (between the 2 main towers) of this suspension bridge is 3,800 feet (1,158 meters).

Apple Orchard Mountain is on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. The Parkway reaches its highest elevation in Virginia here - 3,950 feet (1,203 meters). Wind, ice and snow of raging winter storms have pruned this mountaintop forest, giving it an "old apple orchard" appearance. This "orchard" consists primarily of gnarled lichen-covered Northern Red Oak.

I was here in late March. No snow in the valley, but snow at this elevation, and very windy. The view was exhilarating! It was a treat to see the snow. The Parkway gates are generally closed during the winter because of snow and ice in the higher elevations.

It was pouring rain when I left the house to drive to Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. But when I arrived at the Mill, it was only slightly misty. The autumn colors and the light was phenomenal and well worth the trip in the rain!

Last autumn, I spent the morning walking around Abbott Lake at the Peaks of Otter Lodge. The Lodge is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. The wind was calm and the lake was motionless, creating a perfect reflection of the fall colors.

It was as I stood photographing Whitefish Point Lighthouse on a cold winter day in 2018, that I decided that I needed to start publishing my work for others to see. What good was it to have a beautiful image like this and not have anyone else see it? And, I also got to thinking….even though a picture might be worth a thousand words, that doesn't tell the story behind the image. My photo blog is more like a story, not an instructional article. Then I discovered Mastodon. It's a community like no other social media platform. It's so much more to me than just a place to share my art. A hiker passed me at the Rock Castle Gorge overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. He said it was the first time he'd been so far south on the Parkway. The Appalachian Trail is a beautiful place to hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The Milwaukee River runs through downtown Milwaukee, creating the boundary between the East and West sides of the city. The sidewalk bridges and elevated bridges across the River makes it easier for pedestrians on the Riverwalk.

I created this for a black ink drawing challenge on Night Café. It took a couple tries to get it right (what I was imagining). I'm naturally drawn to night images with my photography, but by using AI Art, I can create what I could never legitimately photograph - a fantastical creation with multiple moons and planets in the sky. And a giant luminous moon that creates a brilliant source of light on a dark ocean landscape.

I love wandering around botanical gardens. So many contrasting and complimenting colors, different in every season. Our visit to the Belle Isle Conservatory in Detroit, Michigan was in the month of October and the colors were beautifully vibrant!

We were on our way back from a day trip and saw the cloud formations from the freeway. We found our way the Blue Ridge Parkway and got to the Great Valley overlook just before sunset. Glorious!

Re-sharing this photograph of my Dad - today is his 90th birthday! He's been a wonderful role model for me over the years and we're blessed to be celebrating his birthday!

We were waiting for the sun to go down at Sunset Point at Presque Isle Park in Marquette, Michigan. I was happy to have this lone silhouette in the shot. Unlike the other people there, he was obviously stopping to appreciate the beauty of the moment.
