My little lad had a bad leukaemia when he was 20 months - in 2002. He had care at Great Ormond St - I calculated at the time (I’m an accountant) at somewhere between £250k and £500k, entirely free to us. And he lived.

The US families sometimes didn’t fare so well. After they’d drained all insurance & resources their kids often died of something entirely treatable.

Folks need to think very hard before voting for either or .

Meanwhile in the Lake District, more evidence that the sewage discharge(s) already identifies across the country as ruining the UK's beaches & seawaters, are having similar impact inland - Lake Windermere is going green as more semi-treated sewage flows into the lake & feed the algae that turn the water green.

Yet more proof that the only people who gained from water privatisation were the investors - for the rest of us it looks like daylight robbery!

@ChrisMayLA6 the water privatisations are a great example of a situation where a targeted windfall tax on dividend receivers and corporate directors pay would make great sense. Probably the banks who printed from the loans made too.

Keir Starmer wants to increase wealth inequality https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/06/04/keir-starmer-wants-to-increase-wealth-inequality/ Keir Starmer has said the Labour Party's goal is to increase wealth, which, given the structure of the UK, means the wealth of the already wealthy. Is that really what a so-called Labour Party should really be all about? And what does it say about his economics?

Working overseas as usual but have to shout out to European trains. Trying to fly a lot less and loving the alternative: rock up at station this morning, having paid CHf30 extra I can go first to - quiet carriage to work, Wi-Fi, power at the seat. And there’s a dining car next door serving a breakfast you actually might want to eat for another CHF16. Door to door it’s no more time and is the same price as flying.

What’s not to like?

The conclusion by Michael Gove's 'independent' review of the Teeside regeneration project that there was 'no evidence of corruption or illegality' seems to have cut little ice with MPs who are now trying to get the National Audit Office to investigate (although it would need Gove's -unlikely - instruction to do so).

There's definitely a smell of corruption coming from the project but how that's formally 'uncovered' may need to wait for a new Govt & even then may not be confirmed.

The good news:
UK exports are rising enough to make the country the fourth largest exporter in the world (good if, as many think, exporting is an engine of economic development/success.

The less good news:
This is mostly accounted for by services, which continue to suffer from productivity issues & as such continue to depress real wages.

The bad news:
Most of this expansion is London-based further consolidating UK's inequality problem

If anyone has any that they a) own and b) would be happy for me to use I'd be very grateful. Please DM me for an email address. Thank you!

Since when was there a "St George's Day" event in central London?
Anyway, this was the scene a whole hour before the thing was supposed to start. A bunch of flagshagging maniacs fighting amongst themselves. Mounted police had to intervene.

Our account goal is not to be popular. Our goal is to inspire a few people to be the change about composting and hope that with a domino effect, they will inspire others.

This is why we have decided to stand for a few topics that are not related to composting.

We want LGBTQIA people to feel included here as I have myself a few letters of the umbrella. It is about to be #PrideMonth and we will celebrate this event.

We stand for the fact that the #climate crisis is a reality. We don't understand why we should follow the feelings of a few old men who are destroying this planet in the name of greed. Fuck that.

Also if democracy is about to be wiped out from the USA we will remind Americans that freedom is never a one-way road. Freedom should never be a privilege for a few people.

"Investment bankers about the financial crisis: “It was an easy game for us to earn a lot of money”

Asked about his political position: "I support the British people. I do not want these people to fall into poverty. If I believe, for example, that the Labour Party can help me to prevent that, then I support them. The party leadership insists that it will not tax the rich. If so, then I cannot."

An issue for now is that he has lied so regularly - almost everytime he promises anything in fact (no exageration) he cannot now be redeemed. You'd have to be truly stupid to believe this crowd. About anything except their self interest.

Extraordinary that this statement is controversial:

"It has been backing and supporting illegal settlers in the West Bank who steal Palestinian land and it is that land theft, that annexation of Palestine, which is the origin of the problem, which has given rise to the Hamas atrocity and the battles we’re seeing.”

Apparently the big crimne is to suggest that Hamas might not operate in a vaccum. That is - apparently - the ultimate position.

What utter fuckwittery.

Yeah - Margaret Hodge does that 'holier than thou' thing in spades but the reality is she is completely unhinged and eaten by anti-semitism conspiracy. She sees it everywhere - though it suits her well, when she finds it in people she already hates. And she hates with a passion.

Her anti-tax avoidance stuff is all lovely - until you find how compromised she is personally on all of that.

She has been a moral stain on the country for decades.
