@GottaLaff I’m not blind or insensitive to any of these things. But there are points in peoples’ lives where a job change or a move happens as part of life. Why not use that opportunity to escape? Frankly I’d be very concerned about raising children (especially female children -I have 3!) in the current environment. Yet we continually hear that the population of TX is growing.
We’re back home from the funeral, that was rough.. The kids did thank us in the speech for taking care of them, that was nice♥️
We told the elderly lady we will visit everyday if she decides to move back in below us :blobcathearts: and I’m gonna keep the garden and around the house nice and clean since that was always something that the elderly man did who passed away
@stux My father did home repairs for decades for seniors who would give him $5 and talk for 2 hours. I’ve done the same thing, more than ever since I retired myself. Aside from the fact that it seems like what one should do as a decent human being, I figure I’m building up some good karma somewhere. It won’t be that long until I’m too old to do a lot of things and I’ll need someone to help.
Eric Trump to Maria Bartiromo: "Right now, New York is falling ... you can't go into CVS and buy skin lotion because it has to be locked behind plexiglass."
@aaron.rupar I keep waiting for the bright, shining example of a Republican-run city, free of crime and homelessness, full of happy and well-fed residents with good jobs. I guess ‘all-white’ would have to be in the GOP model city, but I won’t quibble. Sizable population centers please, no hamlets of 5,000 carefully redlined Stepford zombies.
Mike Johnson says if #Trump wins and Republicans expand their House majority and take the Senate, he has already spoken with Trump about making “big radical changes,”“aggressive changes” to the govt in first 100 days.
Yes, I take it personally when you say you won't vote, or vote for the Dem. Why? Because among other things, the fascists tried to commit a Black GENOCIDE during the pandemic. Your actions or inaction will give them the power to do it again in some other way. My survival depends on them NOT gaining power. So does yours.
@DadeMurphy@StillIRise1963 If you want things to change, you have to attain the power and standing to cause change. Not voting at all, or voting for a 3rd party candidate with no chance of getting a meaningful number of votes, means you will NEVER cause change. And worse, you might enable the ascent of a candidate who vows to remove the possibility of change forever, except as he approves. Voting Democrat at least preserves your ability to move things in the direction you want.
The Biden Administration issued a rule that will cap child care costs at 7% of income for more than 100,000 families that get child care aid under the federal child care block grant.
It's essential for families to have affordable options for child care. Children are the next generation and that generation should be well cared for. #BidenHarris2024
@TonyStark It’s smart of the campaign to allow Harris to shine a bit. Maybe reassure some of the doomsayers that expect Biden to keel over on Jan 22, 2025.
@davidho Could have been a 5 1/4” floppy, or a tape reel from that era. I always thought the file folder should have been used, then a drop-down for media type.
@Teri_Kanefield I’ve been flipping channels while doing other things, and have yet to see any mention of this on Fox. King Charles, Biden’s border crisis, Super Bowl snacks, yes. No immunity for Trump - all crickets.
@idoubtit Meme theory: There aren’t THAT many assholes, however they are strategically placed so that you will encounter at least one each and every day of your life.
@GottaLaff The burning question now is whether he’ll be able to stifle himself in Vegas tomorrow. Once he gets wound up, I’m betting he talks himself into a THIRD defamation suit.
"But for one age group in particular—people over 65—the crashing #vaccination rates should inspire dread. More than 1,500 deaths each week are still associated with #COVID, and almost all of them are senior citizens; current data hint that COVID has been killing seniors at seven times the rate of flu."
@alanpringle I AM an ‘elderly people’. I get vaxxed and boostered, and Medicare pays for it. My tiny wife sometimes gets a sore arm, I’ve never had any kind of reaction. Not denying that some people fare worse, but theres just no comparison to full Covid. Get the shots.
@GottaLaff so, remember how he refused to cooperate with discovery in Freeman-Moss? All that ‘hide the asset’ crap just ended. If the court finds that he concealed assets in his bankruptcy filing, it gets tossed right out.
@waggers5@georgetakei Biden is a known quantity; we know exactly who he is and what his goals are. He’s not perfect by any means, but I see no other potential candidate without flaws and a bunch of unknowns. But I’m curious. When you look at Biden’s accomplishments in the face of an obstructionist Congress and unrelenting hostility from Republicans, Fox, Newsmax, etc, what is it that you find so objectionable?
@SirTapTap When people were making fun of Bernie Sanders’ universal healthcare plan because it would cost (gulp) $39 TRILLION over 10 years, they refused to acknowledge that the current spend for healthcare will be $52 trillion over the same 10 years. So, $13 trillion in savings. If we could realize even a fraction of that, it should be worth serious discussion.
Who then? Please, not McCarthy... Insurrection, then resurrection?
Via Manu Raju:
Rep. Don Bacon told me it would be “very hard” to back a candidate endorsed by the eight Rs who booted #McCarthy.
“They don't support our party. All these folks care about is media clicks.”
“We're not here to accommodate eight people who just kicked us in the shins really bad.”
@GottaLaff@strangefreeworld The sad thing is, 7 Republicans + all the Dems could put Jeffries in as Speaker. And then change the rules to require say, at least 10 to bring a motion to unseat the Speaker. Then perhaps the non-zealot but chickenhearted remainder of the Republicans can try to actually help govern the country. Yes, I know. Just a dream.
Bill Bachenberg, GOP donor & #Pennsylvania "fake elector," is being sued for allegedly failing to pay a cybersecurity firm after it did not find evidence of election fraud.
Per a court filing, Bachenberg allegedly assaulted the process server who attempted to hand him a summons: #legal#TrumpIndictment
@GottaLaff He’s also an NRA board member. Just the kind of calm, measured guy you want to be heavily armed in a stressful situation. We got a lot of damaged people in PA.
“Meet the Press” booking Trump for first show with new host is how FASCISM is normalized! NBC decided the person who should be the first guest on the new MTP is the man who attempted a coup and incited the Jan 6 attack on our Capitol. Please call NBC to tell them this is wrong! My article: https://deanobeidallah.substack.com/p/meet-the-press-booking-trump-for
@DeanObeidallah I watched Chuck Todd right to the end, hoping for improvement. But he continued to let guests spout obvious falsehoods without challenge because it was more important to ask every question than to get truthful answers. Kristen Welker is not an improvement. She has the ability to do hard-hitting interviews, but has chosen to play the “both sides” game, parroting the biased and inflammatory language of the GOP while pretending to be a neutral journalist.
In the final three major decisions of the #SupremeCourt term, the same 6-3 partisan-divide, conservative majority ended affirmative action, wrote an exemption into non-discrimination laws, and struck down a major Biden administration policy to relieve student loan debt. #SCOTUS
@GottaLaff And the question is: Will this finally motivate the young people of America to register and VOTE? And end the apathy that depresses the mid-term election turnout? These decisions adversely affect pretty much everyone but old white conservative men. We need a few terms of a 60% Democratic congressional majority AND some strong local representation to repair the damage done by the modern GOP.
