What really bothers them is that we are disturbing the war.”

Start here by deleting everything Google thinks it knows about you.

https://www.theverge.com/24141741/google-data-delete-how-to

Then pick up with my tips for Google free living.

https://www.optoutproject.net/the-best-non-google-search-engine/

It’s so much better out here without a data-sucking behemoth controlling everything you see, flooding your search results with spam and injecting the internet with LLM-generated sludge. Bonus, if you leave, your data stops contributing to serious ethical problems.

Thanks for @Em0nM4stodon for passing The Verge’s How To along.

Fascinating look at how is being used by the SFO art museum to help encourage revisiting its cultural objects. Still early days, but you can see the potential here -> “The reason I am telling you all of this is that SFO Museum has written it's own limited ActivityPub server implementation and we have, in fact, created an ActivityPub account – a social media, account – for every object in our collection.” https://orthis.social/@thisisaaronland/112339899293624779

Between app purchases and donations to the network itself, I’ve spent more money in a year on Mastodon than I have in a lifetime on traditional, centralized algorithmic social media.

I appreciate not being the product, just the user.

I'm quoted in a @CoinDesk report on the Bitcoin halving, in which I decry the longing for financial systems beyond human control: https://www.coindesk.com/consensus-magazine/2024/04/18/this-bitcoin-halving-is-different-but-is-it-priced-in/

404 Media is doing a great job at getting tech companies to moderate bad actors on their platforms, impressive for such a small indie publication. Their reporting directly led to action at two major tech companies this week: Discord shut down the Spy Pet search engine that sold access to user messages. https://www.404media.co/discord-shuts-down-spy-pet-bots-that-scraped-sold-user-messages/

And Apple removed multiple AI “nudify” apps from the App Store.

US Politics. Very pleased that Summer Lee didn't just win her primary in Pennsylvania, she trounced her very well financed challenger.

This race was important because it's the first of many primaries where brave democrats vocally calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and/or conditions on arms transfers to Israel are being targeted by AIPAC spending big money on their challengers.
