Hailing from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southwest Virginia, I'm a big time film nerd (with a particular love of David Lynch & 20th century horror), an avid reader of a broad range (but 70s 80s horror and sci-fi paperbacks and political history are my jam) and part-time poet when I'm less stable/more inspired, indie rock geek with a strong Americana twist. I'm ace-leaning and a committed friend of the Trans community, genderqueer he/they, mental health awareness advocate with schizoaffective.

Whenever anybody complains about cancel culture ruining lives, I just think about the fact that Mel Gibson is fully allowed to direct Oscar recognized films and co-star in fairly mainstream films despite his deep documentation of antisemitism, racism, and abusive behavior towards women.

Welcome to all the refugees coming into Mastodon for the first time after these most recent events. I promise you that if you give it time to get the hang of it, you will find a much more friendly, chill, and helpful community than you can find almost anywhere else when it comes to social media. The entire Fediverse as a whole has become a home for me, and I hope it does for you as well.

I like when I turn on my TV and it reminds me that it is 4K capable and I'm just like "Oh, that is nice, I'm going to watch a 20 year old documentary series on used DVD"

As all these streaming services slash content and then massively jack up their prices, I feel more justified than ever for the monthly budget I allocate myself to build up a collection.

Walked like three miles today, and whoever says exercise is like a natural drug has obviously not enough actual drugs which is what I was out buying. These are better.

Look, if you put me in front of a Family Dollar DVD section with money in my pocket, the chances are high that I'm going to make a poor financial decision. I couldn't resist, I wanted a collection and thought I'd get way more bad movie entertainment value with this over Poltergeist II and III.

I rewatched The Untouchables bc II picked up a brand new, still sealed for $1.50 weeks back.

The movie is often too corny for its own good, Kevin Costner is just one of the most boring actors of all time, and its weirdly pro-Prohibition.

However, almost every single shot is a visual treat, it is just gorgeously designed and photographed. Connery is a delight, De Niro too tho underused. They don't hold back their squibs. Solid way to pregame football.

If I was a trainer, I would only train ghost and dark types and just spend my days hanging out with my little pals listening to The Cure and Echo & the Bunnymen.

I think we've all just agreed to never talk about how many notable, great filmmakers signed that petition to get charges dropped against Roman Polanski. It was an unfortunate time in history.

Because I spent so much of my youth just playing Pokemon whenever I wanted to mess around with my Gameboy and never had any generation of handheld after that, I missed sooo many games that came out for them. What are some of your favorite games that came out for and that I should check out, I've seen so few videos or anything compared to any other systems that I'm kind of flying blind.

I'll admit that it took longer into adulthood than I would have liked to get on board with affirmative action. I was a white working class Southerner living in a very conservative suburb in Appalachia, so when people like Jim Webb talked about making it class-based instead of race, I listened.

I was a fucking moron. Now more than ever we need AA & other such programs to maintain a basic fairness in educational opportunities for people of color, it is absolutely vital and to gut that is criminal

Really disappointing that Fox didn't air Anthony "Fast Pasta" Alfredo's post-race interview.

He drives for a small team who often count top 20 runs as a really good day, and not only did he manage to qualify for the Dash 4 Cash $100K bonus by his finish at Talladega, but he had another tremendous run today scoring a second consecutive top 10 in a much less equalized track and beating some better funded equipment in order to score what is a huge cash infusion for a team like that.

On the second of the original 4 TV movies that make up what is now considered the first season of Lexx, and there is simply no other show like this. It veers from dark and satire to sex comedy to surreal and psychedelic epic to even and a musical number

And somehow, despite it definitely being a weird show, I don't get whiplash from it, its tone seems so comfortable with itself that it can touch on so much without falling apart.

I think it'll be good for my dad having a part-time job (working at a new Ace Hardware that just opened up in Jacksonville NC), he still has so much energy and motivation the better part of a decade into retirement from the railroad and he's met and befriended so few people since he moved down there outside of my step-mom's social scene when he's a naturally social person.

However, it makes scheduling my weekly call with my dad a lot more difficult cause he works on weekends sometimes now.

This of IT by is narrated by Steven Weber and he does such a fantastic job, especially with all the voices he's asked to do including a lot of Maine accents, that I have a much greater appreciate for his acting talents and it makes me excited for getting to watching The Shining minseries he stars in which I picked up on a few months back for my watch through of Mike Garris's filmography.
