I'm listening to the new issue of @Linux4Everyone podcast by @killyourfm and it's really great! Lots of stuff I didn't know about the project KDE Eco.

Yesterday we published our 2022 Financial Report. When people saw Thunderbird raised $6.4M in 2022 from donations, one question was asked frequently: "Do you have mega-donors?"

Nope. We just have awesome people 💙

Some stats we didn't publish in the report:

-We had 76 donations that were $500 or above, which is less than 1% of total donations.

-95% of our donations were less than $100.

-The largest donation was €3000.

-Our average donation amount $15.78.

Thank you family!

Why do we still live in a world where I can't independently configure my laptop display and external monitor's scaling (100% and 150% respectively) in ? Or is this just an Ubuntu/Kubuntu problem?

Under X11 both displays sync their scaling settings (awful experience when you have a 4K panel). And with Wayland both displays end up blurry, even after a reboot.

I'm using the HP Dev One.

Are there easy workarounds or should I finally make the permanent switch to ?

@killyourfm @TrechNex Fedora is quite progressive compared to other non-rolling distros. They were the first mainstream distro on wayland, systemd, pipewire, and more. It's why I quite enjoy the distro, as it does seem to lead where desktop linux goes.

sesivany,
@sesivany@floss.social avatar

@ainmosni @killyourfm it's most likely this. Fedora was first to switch GNOME to Wayland by default and it was first to switch KDE Plasma to Wayland by default, too. When something is your default experience you care about it much more. I think Fedora is still benefiting from it.

I remember when people complained about issues with Wayland in Debian or Ubuntu I was simply not experiencing in Fedora. Back then it was putting Wayland in bad light while it was not really its fault.

I don't care if BlueSky gains popularity over Mastodon. At this point, I don't wanna be on the dance floor with the cool kids, imma be in the side room with the five weirdos I like.

Great news for Linux gamers.

Steam will soon use the desktop portal file picker.

In practice, it means Steam will use your native desktop method for selecting and saving files, resulting in better user experience and desktop integration.

This is one of many things Flatpak and GNOME pioneered that improves the Linux desktop for everyone.

Audon is a great real-time audio streaming service for the #fediverse! Think Spaces or Clubhouse, and you pretty much got it. You create a room for audio, where other people can listen to you, or just give them the role of speaker as well.

You can easily log in with your fediverse (Mastodon/Calckey/Pleroma) account, create a room, share the link, and you're ready to go!

Check it out at https://audon.space

We are very proud to be sponsoring in this weekend!

Jason @killyourfm will be in attendance with a LOT of stickers and T-shirts to give away to our family.

Look for him at the venue all weekend, and at tonight's welcome party -- he'll be wearing a black Thunderbird shirt with a white logo that looks like this:

This morning I've been reflecting on how my Fosstodon account has evolved over the past few years, and it's become my central place for so many things.

It started off as a niche place where I could interact with other Open Source fans, and by now I'm able to follow news (even local news thanks to bots!), catch up on gaming stuff, and have conversations with people from all over the world about random topics.

It's the only social platform I actually want to use.
