I finally got enough confidence to post a video of me playing . January of this year, at age 50, I decided to start learning. I'm not much to watch, but this is halfway decent. Obviously the bass is pretty loud in the mix, because I'm sharing it the way I hear it. I have a long way to go.

People keep acting surprised at the direction Reddit's taking, but it seemed inevitable. If you try to build community on a platform that's not owned by that community this will happen every time. You can protest, you can even attack the bottom line (which is the only thing that will get you anywhere), but at the end of the day you have no power and they'll just block you and re-add your deleted posts. Don't trade community ownership and power for convenience or you'll get burned every time.

I deleted all my comments on Reddit earlier in the week. Reddit have undeleted them!
I'm not alone, others have seen this. https://www.reddit.com/r/RedditAlternatives/comments/14agh7d/reddit_starting_to_bring_back_deleted_comments/

Edit: It's possible that the deletion only worked on public posts, it seems?

It's weird to me that Apple is sunsetting Macs made as recently as 2017. If you are buying a new Mac to stay on the latest and greatest software, please don't landfill your current Mac. Donate it to a FreeGeek or similar organization. An "unsupported Mac" can continue as a valued computer running Linux for many more years beyond "the sunset".

family: Thank you for the wealth of feedback about our redesigned logo. We listened to it, appreciated it, and took some action.

Your loudest criticism was that our beloved bird looked a bit evil or sinister (LEFT, version 7).

So, in this subtly improved version (RIGHT, version 7.5), we've rotated the eye and tweaked the gradient under the beak to look less harsh.

We think this results in a calmer expression, making the bird look less predatory and more protective.

It's inevitable that throughout my career, I've watched as my work gets replaced and updated by others. It's rare to be asked to redesign old work, which is why I leapt at the chance when @thunderbird asked if I could design a contemporary update to the Thunderbird logo. The one I designed 19 years ago!

I’ll do a proper blog post soon, but for now you can read more here:

Which do you prefer?

(For background: One of Thunderbird's core principles is the use and promotion of open standards - this focus is a rejection of our world of closed platforms and services that can’t communicate with each other. Our upcoming marketing efforts will really lean into this, and we want a long-term hashtag to accompany it.)

I'm pleasantly surprised to see that my is outperforming the HP Dev One laptop in gaming

Honestly wasn't expecting that!

And Steam Deck in docked mode just gets better and better.

I'm going to revisit the idea of daily driving the Steam Deck for my @thunderbird work. Using my @system76 Launch keyboard really sweetens the experience and expandability too.

This is the device that just keeps on giving.

Behind the simple interfaces of the websites we visit everyday, lies a complex web of code and exploitation.

Researcher Joanna Moll uncovered the hidden cost of ONE user buying ONE book on Amazon:

-1,307 different requests to various scripts (mostly used for tracking and profiling you)

-This totals 8,724 A4 pages worth of printed code

-The amount of energy needed to load up all that garbage: 30 Wh.
