Why is the Nintendo 3DS suddenly popular?

Because any Nintendo system that sells less than 100 million units becomes highly sought after by collectors.

Think about it.

The GameCube sold 22 million units. Collectors want it. They will pay top dollar on eBay for one.

The Wii sold 101 million units. Collectors hardly want anything to do with it. You can’t even give one away – even though the Wii can play GameCube games.

Well, same deal with the Nintendo 3DS. It sold 76 million units and therefore collectors want it. Its predecessor, the Nintendo 3DS, sold 154 units – which is why you can acquire it for a pittance.

My theory about why this is the case is because I think Nintendo fans don’t like it when a Nintendo platform gets too popular. They like being in an exclusive club. If the Wii sold only 50 million units, collectors would pay top dollar for it.

Starting a thread about my life with Cookie, while she’s in intensive care right now in San Francisco. She’s still conscious, but it’s not looking great. Even if she gets to come home I think it’s time to prepare to say goodbye to her.

I was 24 years old. I’d just moved to Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. With the first serious girlfriend I had. We thought it’d be a great idea to get a dog.

POLL: Suppose sponsors supported your local Fediverse instance in return for a set number of ads per hour (20 or less), and never with an algorithm positioning them. And the ads stay local to that community and don’t federate.

Is this a reasonable proposition to offset the costs of communities?

@shoq I said yes, tho 20 ads in an hour sounds like a lot to me. Other things I would want to know include:

  • how visually distinct are ads from non-commercial posts?
  • is it possible to upgrade to a 'pro' account (via monthly subscription) to opt out of the ads?
