Signal received a lot of flak when they added stories to the app. Call me Mr Controversial, but the idea of having a way to broadcast life updates to friends and family safely makes a lot of sense to me!

But Signal is primarily meant for highly confidential correspondence in narrow groups. Stories are broadcast to everyone in my address book who’s on Signal.

There’s an option to narrow the audience, but there’s a fundamental clash between the chat and stories UX.

The Librem 5 is a very interesting project. It's fair to say the phone has a very low market penetration even within the niche of Linux phones enthusiasts.

It is a real-life example of what happens when free software engineers are in charge of the entirety of a product.

For example, the phone needs a cheat code to recharge the battery past a certain threshold.
