@Kristofferabild Threads URLs are a bit weird and so they tend to not work correctly with clicking on them in Mastodon. You can find threads users, follow them, and their posts will show up in your feed.

It's also great that I'm still reading about whether the fediverse will continue to work in tech news while I guess we're just all skipping that twitter is now effectively broken.
At this point, Twitter and BlueSky are virtually identical, except there's a bit more public info about users. So maybe it's worse? In any event, the whole plan all along was to create the illusion of difference and "starting over" by simply swapping a platform. Fascinating how gullible most people are.

What a pleasant surprise to have found an app (@openvibe) that aims to bring together all decentralized social networks in one! It saves you the trouble of having to post on each one separately. Ich wage noch einen Versuch: Gibt es hier Entitäten, die #Glitchsoc (oder zur Not auch #Mastodon) auf #Yunohost selberhosten? Mein Glitchsoc versendet keine Mails. Im .env.production steht localhost als Mailserver. Das war bei meiner Firefish-Instanz auf Yunohost auch so und hat auch keine Mails verschickt. Erst als ich meinen Yunohost-Server als externen Mailserver eingetragen hab, ging's. Vielleicht muss ich das bei Glitchsoc auch machen, fürchte mich aber, .env.production zu manipulieren.

What a great feature that I didn’t know about: You can subscribe to only specific languages of a user. Seems to be only available in the #Mastodon web interface so far, but I would love for clients like @ivory, @MonaApp and @phanpy to add this as well.

@Ooze, you’re not supposed to see the alt text on images. It’s either the media, or its alternative textual representation. If you ever feel the need to do so it’s been misused and such text should have been put in the body instead.
I feel increasingly angry/frustrated at how academic conferences insist we 'join them on XTwitter' to follow the conf. Why should we have to do that? Why arent they providing an open social web alternative? Why are they so beholden to private monopoly Big Tech? This happened recently for the Networked Learning Conference, an initiative that claims to be dedicated to open networks of learning. How can they possibly think it is ethically acceptable to only use XTwtr?

@ncoca Yeah, with many email providers, you can append "+whatever" to your username and filter on that. I have done so in a number of places, but when a legitimate business starts spamming me, I will push back. The burden should be on the businesses to maintain their systems properly (and US law more or less says the same), not on people to be tech-savvy.
It's also astonsihing to me that companies think that sending out several emails a week about their BIG SALE is a good idea.
@iriepixel the answer is quite simple. Free speech and reach. Mastodon is fragmented and each instance has its own sets of rules, admins block entire instances easily, and there is no way to appeal that.
Of course it's every admin's right to manage their instance however they want. But the result isn't desirable for many people.
There are also other smaller issues that can ruin UX.
