theADHDAcademic, If you live in the UK and have ADHD, please take a look at Dr Dyi Dieuwertje Huijg's survey, "ADHD Women: Resisting a Neuronormative World."
Dyi has ADHD herself, and she's one of the few folks I've encountered researching ADHD with ADHD.
Please share with those who may be interested!

nicola, I read ADHD—A Lifelong Struggle today. It’s the best thing I’ve read on ADHD so far. Its advice is grounded in experience and applies to everyone: those who think ADHD is a crock or, worse, an excuse, those who suffer from it, and those who have family members or friends who suffer from it.
salakala,
18+ zyd, @salakala I just started taking vitamin d the past week, good to know.
Also, I don't know if I can generalize this but as someone on ADHD meds (methylphenidate) I've reduced my coffee intake to maybe just one cup on the weekends, my only source of caffeine, and that has been a significant boost to feeling better. Especially with afternoon crashes, they're not anywhere near as brutal. Don't know if you experience that though.
18+ salakala,
Susan60, Reading… so good. Sciency, but historical too which is my thing. #actuallyautistic @actuallyautistic #adhd
edross, "Neurodiversity and the Myth of Normal" by Kyler Shumway, Daniel Wendler, The Great Courses on Audible. https://www.audible.co.uk/pd/B0CVBK3QVB?source_code=ASSOR150021921000R
Really nice introduction to Neurodiversity. Shame it is locked into Amazon/Audible as it would be great to share
@actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd #ActuallyAutistic #ADHD #trans too
llPK, French @edross @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd I’ve heard audible books can be extracted to mp3
liztai, So happy I took the time to learn #Dataview. It's going to be revolutionary for my vault. It'll help me create main topic pages to keep track of my notes. I used to manually link every note to a "MOC" but I kept forgetting and found it tedious. This is going to be a "leave it and let grow" thing, and it suits my #ADHD brain immensely lol.
And how great it is that the
#Obsidian anticipated our annoyance with YAML and come up with the properties feature? Genius.
davidlohner, @secupriv @liztai @obsidianmd I used a LLM to create crazy dataviews. See https://notelab.hypotheses.org/1151 and https://notelab.hypotheses.org/1352
langdonalger, This is a really great tip!
ashleyspencer, I had a Rockstar energy drink, coffee, and a small Red Bull can, and it made me so sleepy I passed out for 14 minutes and woke up feeling like I slept an hour.
Energy drinks are supposed to make me functional, not take a nap after 240mg energy drink caffeine + whatever 4oz coffee is.
Damn ADHD lol.
Energy drinks do this to anyone else?
unixorn, Funny, this came up on slack yesterday. I used to surprise friends because I would drink three or four Cuban coffees and then fall asleep
Der_Bachmann, @ashleyspencer
@adhd
RL_Dane, Someone needs to write an #ADHD videogame called "Dopamine Farming" where you have a stable job and a great life and all of a sudden DONT care about anything in the world and start planning things around the dopamine they will produce so you can get through the day, like, "Time for a haircut! I don't need one that badly, but that's fifteen dopamine points, so I'll take it!"
RL_Dane,
RL_Dane, Lemme get this straight, #BetterHelp helped themselves to $80 out of my account every month for several months while I dealt with undiagnosed #ADHD with no help from them (kinda hard to get treatment when you have to initiate all of the communication and you have raging ADHD). The US FTC sued them and all I get back is $9.70?
Good grief.
OH SNAP, they got sued for selling customer's data TO FACEBOOK. WOW! WHAT A PARAGON OF VIRTUE.
BetterHelp. More like GetShafted.
RL_Dane, Oh, I thought it was the FTC directly. Oh well.
RL_Dane, Somehow they weaseled out of abiding by HIPAA compliance, which is the closest thing we have to actual privacy protections in the U.S.
deirdresm, Bullet point 1 is the funniest thing I’ve ever read about #ADHD. Also true.
Natanox, @f4grx @deirdresm Yup, same for me on mobile. Reddit tries to strongly fingerprint you, the website is unfathomably enshittificated by now.
afewbugs, @deirdresm I always think it must be very sad to be neurotypical and not really deeply interested in anything, that seems like a really boring way to live
btaroli, Yes “Treering,” I’m sure you think it’s important to remind us to order yearbooks for a school my son hasn’t been at for two years. But I literally loathe the principal, who kept ignoring my son’s #IEP, so much I’ll just block you, laugh, and vent some.
#ActuallyAutistic #AuDHD #ADHD #ParentingWhileAutistic #AutisticParenting
btaroli, My current world order, where my morning and overnight schedule has largely shifted to accommodate a crazy early start to get kiddo ready for alternate school pickup, has resulted in my not being up as late at night as I used to be.
What I’ve realized is this seriously impacts my productivity. I’m way more productive at quiet times in mg day, and now my working time is constrained to when others are around. This sucks.
btaroli, I’m very glad this alternate placement has worked for my son, and is serving to help him prepare to transition back to regular school site. But to say I’m eager for the transition to occur is an understatement. I will be very glad to be back in a position where I can be more productive again and try and focus on more self-care.
It’s easy to forget the changes we make to help our kids sometimes hurt us.
RL_Dane,
thor, (edited ) What to do if you're 40 and you've realised you can't stand office work at all because you have #ADHD, but the only job experience you have is 13 years of being a software engineer?
Add to that the constraint that you can't go to school to re-educate yourself because school is just office work you don't get paid for?
What kind of job can you even get in that situation? I've been thinking about that for 4 years now and I don't have any good answers. 🤷♂️
EDIT: I did not respond well to medical ADHD treatment. Bad side effects. Many people get those, but it's not talked about much.
thor, Adding "Set up regular Jitsi Meet conference calls for #ADHD people on Mastodon" to my to-do list, because that sounds like a good idea to me.
Just need to pick a weekly time that works for the maximum number of people in the maximum number of timezones...
thor, @alex_02 I started putting everything I need to do on a Trello board recently. There's too much shit I tell myself I'm gonna do that I just forget.
RL_Dane,
ninavizz,
Siihen saatiin kuitenkin hyvä vastaus, jossa Kaisa Hernberg nostaa esiin joitakin jutun ongelmia.
anuko, Finnish Aika vähän on ollut esillä se, millä tavoin jo pelkkä kaupunkiympäristö kuormittaa. Liikenne, melu, liikkuvat mainospinnat jne.

Taffer, Really glad I didn't wipe my old laptop before getting it ready for my wife to play games on... I keep finding things I failed to transfer.
Earlier this week it was my VeraCrypt image with my tax documents (the one I had on the new laptop was missing last year's!). Today it's all of my email contacts in Thunderbird.
Sigh.
thor, #ADHD medication rebound
liztai, Found Tony Romella & feel that he gets me. Even his #Obsidian vault is organised like mine! A totally underrated #PKM Youtuber with an ADHD bent.
ND folks do think very differently. For eg, I just can't do Tiago Forte's PARA system. I have this "out of sight out of mind" thing we #ADHD folks seem to have. If I stash my files in a folder, I forget it even exists. It gets worse if there are subfolders. Like Tony, I have a hybrid system & use notebooks. Coincidence?
dahie, @liztai thanks, I'll check it out! I have this weird mix of "I need to see it to exist" while also having the urge to "compact everything into boxes" both working against each other xD
liztai, @dahie OMG exactly this. Because I don't know if I can't keep up with the many platforms! lol
servelan, Popular ADHD Medications Like Adderall May Increase Young Adults’ Risk of Heart Damage @actuallyautistic #adhd
JamesDBartlett3, @servelan @actuallyautistic
You completely neglected to mention the fact that the increased risk was so small, the researchers said that it doesn't merit changing anything about how these medications are currently prescribed.
Mela, German Yes. All of this. All the time. https://www.instagram.com/p/C6L0L_Lsag1/ #adhd #adhs
ashleyspencer, Lately the ADHD has taken over.
I’ve been unable to work, can’t clean, not getting anything done. Always too burned out to function.
But today I got the hyperfocus part of ADHD.
Mostly it’s like, I’m incapable of functioning.
I’ve gone weeks unable to function. I can drink 2 energy drinks and still barely function.
Today I woke up full of energy and in hyperfocus hyper speed work mode, so I just rolled with it. Tomorrow I could be nonfunctional again. It’s so unpredictable 🙃
pathfinder, @ashleyspencer
Sounds unpleasant. I thought your meds had settled you down?
ashleyspencer, @pathfinder They normally do but occasionally I’ll get an intense drive to work and have the energy to do it. At first I thought it was hypomania, but I’m not feeling impulses to be irrational or spend a bunch of money. My mood is very level, I’m just very focused. And also tired after getting so much done. I have a hard 5pm cut off time where I do not work after that no exceptions.
