@Edent At least in my bit in the world, this was incredibly valuable work. When the app became available to the general public in September, it had already been subject to detailed peer review. And that built trust, which was vital because one big hazard at that point was trust in government.
That peer review meant that techies like me could tell their mates that they didn't need to worry, that installing the app was both safe and helpful.

As many of you know, I have worked for @novalauncher for 8 1/2 years. When I was hired, I was done so as a contractor and remained a contractor the entire time. Then two years ago, Branch Metrics acquired Nova and while I made the transition over, I was still a contractor due to Branch not having things setup to hire full time employees in the state of North Carolina. I'm used to working slowly, taking my time, so charging by the hour doesn't feel right.
Any tips for figuring out what to charge an extended family member who's willing to pay a fair price? I've put together a game they designed, with some simple hand drawn illustrations. Prepared it as a digital file for online sale, with packaging graphics, barcode, web page on my store.
@ellane in the past for a situation like a friend or extended family member I’ve said “pay me what you feel it’s worth to you” knowing I might be donating my time. Almost always I’ve been surprised.

I don't tout myself much on here, but from 1st July 2024 I'll have some capacity to work with new clients on a regular basis (an existing client is gradually moving work in-house due to increased volume). @pwaring do you do anything with WordPress? Got a couple of large legacy WP projects running bespoke plugins that need some TLC; a lot of it is just bog standard PHP but good WP knowledge is crucial. Let me know if it's of interest and I can provide more info. :)
@jemjabella I've always avoided WordPress - I think you need to specialise in it really and I'm more of a generalist, plus I found that WP jobs were often massively underpaid because you're competing with low-wage countries on platforms like Fiverr.

My fiance is still at #work. I thought I'd be diligent and cut some #firewood with a wood splitter. Oh that was #hardwork! The wood kept getting stuck in the cutter blade (branches made cutting difficult)! I had hit the wood with the poll of an ax to get it loose. @preya Ich würde das ja einfach das Finanzamt fragen anstatt das Internet. Die beißen nicht, zumindest nicht die, mit denen ich bislang Kontakt hatte, im Gegenteil. Schlussendlich willst du ihnen ja das Leben vereinfachen und fragst deshalb.
Abgesehen davon kann ich mir vorstellen, dass die best practices da von Bundesland zu Bundesland oder schlimmstenfalls sogar von Finanzamt zu Finanzamt abweichen.
