Grand juries in four New Hampshire counties have indicted political consultant Steve Kramer for using an AI impersonation of #Biden to urge Dems not to vote in NH’s presidential primary. Kramer faces over 24 counts split between impersonating a candidate—a misdemeanor—and voter suppression—a felony.
The #SupremeCourt on Thurs allowed the use of a #SC congressional map that a lower court said “exiled” thousands of #BlackVoters to carve out a district safer for a #WhiteRepublican incumbent.
The decision was a victory for #Republicans not only because it clears the way for a map that is favorable to the #GOP. It also sets a high bar for determining when a map can be considered a #RacialGerrymander, rather than a #partisan one. #SCOTUS has previously found the #Constitution bars racial #gerrymandering but that federal courts cannot police partisan gerrymandering.
Writing for the majority, Justice Samuel #Alito noted many predominantly #Black precincts in #Charleston were moved out of one district & into another. But “because of the tight correlation between race & partisan preferences, this fact does little to show that #race, not #politics drove the legislature’s choice,” he wrote.
The Tories have introduced voter id to UK elections on the flimsiest evidence and with limited docs allowed for id.
The Veterans Minister asked for the new Veterans Cards to be allowed as voter id, but the Gov refused.
This leaked doc from the minister shows clearly the reason: the Tories are trying to stop young people from voting because the evidence is that young people tend not to vote Tory in great numbers.
@lovelylovely This is last year's post. Definitely every Ohioan should regularly check their voter registration - even regular voters get erroneously purged.
In 2024, go to https://voterlookup.ohiosos.gov/voterlookup.aspx and enter your name and county. If your name doesn't appear, you've already been purged. If your name is there, click on it to find out whether you're in "confirmation status." If either of those is true, register again now! #Ohio#votersuppression
It’s one of the most important resolutions on the docket. Without our voting rights fascism is all but a sure thing. Voter suppression is rooted in racism.
Sometimes I wish just one Republican state would leave the US to found it's own country.
Just one, which could try out all the book burning, closed borders, fewer women's rights, religios politics, non-scientific medicine — so everyone could really see, what that leads to.
For years, politicians in Europe blamed everything on the EU, but I can assure you, when Britain left our union and became a country with considerable challenges, it crushed the EU blame game in many countries.
Now, I have always voted since I was first eligible in the '80s. But I want to post a reminder that there are massive systemic issues with our voting system.
We can each do our individual best, while also recognizing that systemic issues do not have individual solutions.
We do not have "apathetic" voters, we have massively, intentionally disenfranchised voters.
"Wreak havoc": Text messages suggest a top Wisconsin Republican tried to suppress Black vote | Salon.com
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel implicate new Wisconsin GOP executive director Andrew Iverson in an apparent 2020 election plot to sabotage "Souls to the Polls," a Black-led voter turnout group.
Note: Republicans seem more set on repressing Democratic voters than growing the GOP base.
"Conspiracy theorists Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman must pay up to $1.25 million for their racist and dangerous voter intimidation campaign that targeted Black voters. Voting is our most basic democratic right, and I'll always fight to protect it," James wrote on X. #VoterSuppression#NewYork
A combination of an October election and new voter ID rules is likely to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of UK students.
An analysis of the student vote in the 2019 general election showed that Labour did much better in constituencies with lots of students, while the Tories performed “considerably worse".
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey (R) signed a bill that makes it a felony for anyone other than a family member or cohabitant to help someone request, fill out or return an absentee ballot. #VoterSuppression
"We have to stop assuming Black people don’t vote or that people living in red states want it to be that way...red states stay red because Republicans work very hard to keep them that way."
"Pierre #Poilievre is so clearly campaigning - and has been since he became the CPC leader. Is this really okay with everyone?
No wonder he's ahead in the polls. HE IS CAMPAIGNING NON-STOP.
Meanwhile, PM Trudeau has a country to lead, legislation to develop, world leaders to meet, and so on."
👉 Taxpayers have paid for PP to flit around Canada campaigning for the last 2 years. The Conservative leader has higher expenses than the Prime Minister.
"The fact that the Durham voter turnout was ROCK BOTTOM - says people are not as angry as #Poilievre wants us to believe.
If voters were really ANGRY & wanted to send Justin Trudeau a message - voter turnout would be high."
Voter apathy is a massive problem. #Ontario has a similar situation where #DougFord has majority rule with minimal voter turnout.
Here we go again: Someone replies “we DESERVE” who we get in elections… Me: No, we didn’t DESERVE Trump. (There were dirty tricks, election interference, 7 million more for Hillary). He then felt he had to explain we don’t use pop vote in elections. No kidding. I asked that he “please don’t twist my words, my issue was “DESERVE”. His reply? “I’ll make a conscious effort to passively consume your content without further engagement moving fwd.”
I never sugg he shouldn’t opine. Debating here is 🤪
In January, Michigan’s secretary of state demanded that Markee reinstate all the #voters who had not confirmed that they had moved. In a recent interview, Markee said she was still in discussions about the matter.
“They found this loophole in the state of #Michigan,” she said. “We have to follow the #law.” [The MI statute the activists cited gives “guidelines”]
