You know when people say they'll never build their own house again?
Just been told the mechanical subcontractor on ours has been to site today. And ripped out everything he's done as our builder hasn't paid him. Won't be surprised if the other trades he's fucked over don't all start turning up and doing the same.
So tomorrow morning I have to go over there and see what's happened. And then probably work very hard at some rage control.

Weird issue. In warm weather, our toilet and drains sound hollow, gurgles, etc, when flushing or draining, like when the tub is drained. In the cold months, it is fine. Last year we had the system snaked 100%. No clogs–been an issue since we bought house in 2019.

I am thinking the warm weather, wind, etc is causing negative air pressure through the main roof plumbing vent

What does the think? Any solutions?

I want to share the story of my dad, who has spent the past 20 years optimizing my family home to produce more energy than it consumes.

He is an , so this comes much more natural to him as me being an , but I think this story is an .

So lets get on...

I tested my new old camera from 1954 that produces square images on a 35 mm film, so on a roll of 36 you can squeeze in over 50 images! (I used the cheapest color film available) 📸

Gear:
• Zeiss Ikon Taxona (Germany, 1954)
• Tessar f/3.5 37.5 mm
• Kodak VISION3 250D

Why in the hell did they do the roof like this?

We're going to have to fix this SOB.

They should have gotten rid of the flat roof over the kitchen when they built the add-on with the gable roof in the rear.

As the "next" homeowner after this mess, we'll have to solve the problem before we have troubles.

And I can't help but think what UK really needs is a Foul Play Review Officer.

So, you are accused of ignoring warnings about & dangers of collapse.

You need to withdraw from day-to-day politics while we review you messages & replay the decisions you made, before it decided whether you can return!

I can dream, can't I?

Looking Out
Shoin Building at the Japanese Garden
Van Nuys, CA

Do these floor to ceiling open panels qualify for I wonder? I will assume so. A beautiful garden to visit if you're in the Valley (though many areas are now undergoing restoration work.)

HELP! Outdoor electric, internet, & water... to a cabin 20 metres from house.

For the log cabin in my friend's garden, she needs to do cabling (internet, electric, water).

We just aren't sure what cables to get, or considerations like how deep the trench needs to be, & if the cables are going to need a sturdy tube to run through, etc.

Can anyone give us advice on any or all of this? :ablobthinkingeyes:

Very grateful for help/reposts.

It would be 15-20 minutes via phone or Zoom, one day this week. Can anyone here help?

From my 2000s ar(t)chive…

Stylized 3D illustration for the Dutch FNV Bouw magazine, about bad weather conditions for construction workers.

The FNV is a Dutch union. Back in the early-to-mid 2000s I was experimenting a lot with stylization and NPR / toon rendering.
