“(Sam A) felt that by my voicing the system, I could bridge the gap between tech companies and creatives... He said he felt that my voice would be comforting to people”

We totally believe them, right?
"Recall screenshots are only linked to a specific user profile and Recall does not share them with other users, make them available for Microsoft to view, or use them for targeting advertisements. Screenshots are only available to the person whose profile was used to sign in to the device," Microsoft says.
@baldur Thank you! I left web dev in December, after working as a web dev since 1995. Even as a lifelong learner, the everyday pressure to stay current with tech was so exhausting. Another new framework? Why. What is wrong with the other hundred? Throw in feature bloat on platforms like WordPress, which I used to just make my workflow easier for clients. I feel extra happy that I got out before AI #enshittification takes over.
This notification in the #Windows start menu is to get me to sign in so they can serve ads all over the OS, right? No thanks. #Microsoft#enshittification
It's sad that not only large companies go through the #enshittification cycle, I'm starting to notice it in many content creators too.
I started following their feeds, YouTube channels, newsletters, etc. because I enjoyed what they said, the topics they brought up, and the way they discussed them. But as they gain traction, the quality of their products take a hit as they all inevitably veer towards self-promotion of courses, seminars, books, etc.
We're currently looking for a new refrigerator because we're renovating our kitchen. The existing built in fridge has been there for the 16 years that we've lived here, and who knows how long before. It's awful: The internal temperature fluctuates between freezing and 8 C and it guzzles electricity - measurement suggests ~500 kWh per year.
For some reason all new built in fridges still have high energy usage, so we're only looking at free-standing models.
Most fridge/freezer combi models are absurdly large. It's a stretch to reach the top shelf inside.
All the A-rated refrigerators are huge and have apps. Linking appliances to the internet is IMO stupid and in any case white goods ought to last longer than mobile phones.
Some of the B rated models are only just behind the 'A's in energy usage but they usually have apps as well.
Then there's the problem of avoiding boycotted brands (#siemens linked to Israel and Russia, #liebherr and #samsung to Russia, #Beko to Turkey).
Aha, I get it now: the GenAI enshittification of cloud services like Slack, StackOverflow, Google, Discord, MSFT, and all the rest is a conspiracy by lonely SysAdmins who miss the old days of running IT equipment in-house and are pushing a return to on-prem 🖥️💽⌨️
The #enshittification of #slack is getting worse. You can't personally opt out of LLM training -- your instance admin has to know about it and remove it for everyone.
And it's putting a pall over some of those DMs I've had over work slack.
I had such a great chat with @mike on his Dot Social podcast, where we talked about the future of the web and why I'm a web optimist, why everyone should be a blogger, digital ownership, and decentralized social media.
I really have hard time to understand why every technology must be bent around the non-sensical word #contentcreator...
Who cares about "content creators" ... For me "content creators" means publishing superficial & arguable topics with very low budget on the internet... WOW... Super... 😑
It looks like we (not exactly me) are all addicted to consume content on the internet that we can't live without "content creators" . 🤦♂️
For me "content creators" are another symptom of the #Fediverse#enshittification, because they are a product of the "nasty social media" to let people sticking in front of a screen.
If you are against the "nasty social media" the last thing that you want on the Fediverse are the "content creators" .
Please save the Fediverse from "content creators" ... 🙏
#Enshittification of the sky continues: After shitting in optical #astronomy pool, new exciting development appears: to shit all over both optical and #radioastronomy at once!
Whoever can, please send your opinion to FCC. No need to be US citizen. #Sky is for billions, not for billionaires.

"To develop AI/ML models, our systems analyse Customer Data (e.g. messages, content and files) submitted to Slack as well as Other Information (including usage information) as defined in our privacy policy and in your customer agreement."
I am totally floored by the bold, drunk on LLM idea that Slack by Saleforce has right now: They want to compromise the privacy of customer data to train their implementation of an LLM.
This is beyond cursed because Salesforce has the audacity to make this scheme an opt-out instead of op-in to maximize the data accumulation.
I hope the uproar this will generate makes Slack step the hell back!
Not sure how I feel about the whole #audiodiffusion and #ai in music situation.
Why make machines that do the things we enjoy? Why not make machines that clean the toilets at music festivals? I’m guessing most people wouldn’t be hugely disappointed if the job disappeared to #ai!
@jneno 2) The part that really unsettles me is that so many musicians and producers will now loose their livelihood to machines (possibly) trained on their work as library and “stock” work disappears overnight.
I also don’t like the way #AI is being consolidated into a few big corporations. That sort of thing has historically never worked well for the consumer. #enshittification
