United Nations International Computing Centre (UNICC) has selected #Element as its #secure communications platform, following a competitive #tender process.
Element stood out as a digitally sovereign platform which offers end-to-end #encryption. Its ability to be #federated to support multiple organisations was also a key factor in the #selection process.
#UNICC will self-host Element through an Element Enterprise subscription.
Could #matrix become the groups functionality for the #SocialWeb? AKA could our identities be made to be shared between that service and #ActivityPub etc? Both are FOSS and decentralized, right? Thanks.
Boy do I love #matrix.org having issues again. It just doesn't feel like a truly modern replacement for things like #XMPP if it were stable and usable.

Offene Protokolle wie #matrix und #xmpp sind für alle Geräte verfügbar. Warum werden diese nicht bevorzugt eingesetzt oder wenigestens ebenfalls angeboten?
Messaging transports better be dumb and do the bare minimum to get the job done for end-to-end encrypting apps. Compared to #matrix homeservers #chatmail servers are two orders of magnitude more dumb, consume two orders of magnitude less resources and are blazing fast and don't require extra (central?!) identity and integration servers. With delta all intelligence, including general purpose https://webxdc.org/apps and protection against compromised networks and servers, lives on the end device.
For some reason not all of my #Matrix conversations show up in #ElementX so I end up having two versions of #Element installed on my #Android phones which is not wonderful for battery life and data usage. Element X should have been branded as Element Beta or something along those lines.
Device verification doesn't "stick" with Element X. You have to do the emoji instead of scan, but then when you verify, Element X still complains about not being verified. This also means you can't then use it to verify other sessions.
I can imagine that people who installed Element X as their initial gateway to #Matrix would be quite underwhelmed by the experience.
#Matrix experience on the phone (iOS) is atrocious.
There are 3 clients total. Element seems to support all the features but has some horrendously bad UX. It's cryptic to the point where it's hard to figure how to navigate it. It also randomly doesn't show messages in the threads until very late after.
FluffyChat is clearly not a native app. You just feel it in how clunky the interactions are. Doesn't support threading either, which makes it useless for e.g. the slack bridge.
I remember Element X was actually a good experience, but it requires some specific protocol extension that's implemented with a proxy that doesn't work with Conduit
