I guess making money somewhat honestly by having customers that actually pay for a service with at least some guarantees of privacy and safety is not as lucrative as having an open platform network where people are tricked into giving out all their data while they are spied upon for whatever reasons.
this is unironically brilliant. it's like a parody show of silicon valley, but played entirely for straight. the "whales" are the butt of the joke and one almost thinks they don't realise

TOM COTTON who is METHODIST just called CHUCK SCHUMER, a mensch from Brooklyn who had family murdered during the #Holocaust, an antisemite.
sit with that for a sec: an Arkansas Republican —who aligns himself with the antisemitic evangelical "Christian Zionist" movement— just called ANTISEMITE, USA's highest ranking Jewish official.
what is the end goal of Christian Zionists? colonize #Israel & convert Jews to Christianity... 🧵
This should be a viral national story in #US. After this team unanimously unionized, Google refused to come to the bargaining table.
A resolution supporting the workers was brought to the city council. The day the workers showed up to testify on the resolution, Google laid off the entire team.
This was the precise instant when YouTube Music employees became aware that we had lost our jobs, as we were addressing the City Council.
🗣 AND THIS IS THE PRECISE MOMENT THE FASCIST #TECHBRO MAFIA DECIDED TO HYPE AI AND LAYOFF WORKERS FOR QUARTERLY PROFITS
more than a half-million IT workers were laid-off the past 2 years alone; but this process started with Google in 2019 after your attempts to unionize.
i noticed and have been calling out the trend as an expert on the intersections of tech & politics.
#techbros are now burning the internet to the ground with AI just because y'all dared to unionize.
AI DATA CENTERS are land, water, energy and minerals castles built for vampiric #techbro#colonialism.
we need to support more countries like #Chile pushing back at techbro #ecocide projects and not let what happened to Evo Morales in #Bolivia.
the official story is that Evo was ousted for corruption. the real story is somewhere in between that and Apartheid Clyde's mafia paying for his ouster so they can colonize the poorest country with one of the largest RARE EARTH deposits on Earth.
😂 Elon Musk just crawled from under a rock and discovered something that has been bothering people for years. It is just too funny not to share this one.
Uber says it finally made an annual profit after 15 years, but who paid the price to get it there?
The company fired 6,700 workers, hiked fares for customers, and squeezed drivers even harder. Now the stock is up and investors will get a $7 billion share buyback. It turns your stomach.
Yeah this is why I don't like the "but you can opt-out tho!" (which is just fucking #techbro tone) and "why did you set it to public then" (even though it's very tempting to do so since a lot of people just forget to #thinkbeforeyouclick...) responses. It's just tone-deaf, and there are way better rebuttals than that anyway.. :seija_coffee:
But I will still push back on those trying to misrepresent the problem as a #privacy one. Because it just isn't at all. Don't try to muddy the waters.
We're definitely moving toward the unsocial network if we aren't already there. Bowling alone? Forget it. Apparently the desired tech future — maybe not mine or yours; what #BigTech is pushing — is about isolationism, where you don't even have to leave your desk (worker drones!) or your bunker (#TechBro overlords!)
#Isolationism is also being pushed by another — political — group. 😕
would love to have a #techbro explain how their obsession with busting #labor#unions, replacing white collar workers with #AI and owning #robots to do what they think are menial jobs, is not about slavery 🤨 @evacide.
The short version: satellites are super annoying for astronomy, but are completely terrifying for what they might do to the atmosphere as they deorbit in large numbers (and we don't actually know what they'll do - that's the scary part.)
@sundogplanets I am amazed that the economics stack up. The satellites deorbit in a few years and must be replaced. The sheer cost of doing that must make it the highest maintenance cost communications system existing. Totally ignoring the rabid climate change accelerant caused by these incessant launches the whole concept seems unsustainable.
so 240,000 people got laid off from #techbro companies so they could go lay down solar panels?
if this is not more reason to unionize all software developers, project managers, info architects, sysadmins, whatever the #tech title pops into your mind?
I just thought of a term for Silicon Valley VC and techbro culture's insistence on "move fast and break things" even at scale even when it puts millions of people or even society at risk because that's all worth it if they can be the next unicorn company and/or Jobs/Musk/etc billionaire demigod: Silicon Valley Sociopathy #VultureCapitalism#SiliconValley#Techbro#SiliconValleySociopathy
