I’m finding that, for me, the loss of Reddit is hitting a lot harder than the demise of Twitter ever did. I did enjoy Twitter, pre-Musk, especially for getting the latest news and tuning in to the many high-level conversations that USED TO happen there - gone now. But for me #Twitter was also kinda like shouting in the wind, too vast, too impersonal. But the many sub-reddits I subscribe to were community, and in some cases, even like family to me. Reddit has changed now, in so many ways, and is just a shadow of its former self. It’s a damn shame. A lot of my favorite subs are gone, or have new moderators who are clueless. The content on the site is miserable when compared to the past. I’m seeing so much junk, inane junk at that, in my feed. I’d been so comfortable on Reddit, an entirely enjoyable daily habit. Now, more often than not, the platform is a frustrating disappointment. End of rant. #Reddit#SocialMedia#SocialMediaPlatforms
@CharlieMcHenry I agree. I too quit Reddit when the shutdown and it’s consequences happened. I no longer want to participate in corporate media that uses its users. However, there used to be some great communities on there. I miss its topical nature.
Ich hab eine kleine community auf #reddit gegründet. Dort geht es um möglichst aktuelle Nachrichten, Publikationen usw. auf De oder En zu #MECFS, #LongCovid und #PostVac.
Informationen zu #Corona sind erlaubt.
I'm gonna try and re-post this. Of course, Kbin's decided to be dumber than usual and won't even let me delete threads right now. Sorry, photos...even though I submitted this as a link.
EDIT: I can't even edit the text in the main post. Hopefully there's a fix soon.
As a disabled person, I face ableism and ableist language every day. Some people use ableist language without even knowing that it is ableist. I thought it would be good for folks to take a look at the attached BBC article and expand their perspectives a bit.
No, there's definitely more to it than that. I don't fully understand, but to give you an example, @ram, here are screenshots of how your comment about kbin above looks to me:
Yes pretty much, though I'll attribute that label to mostly any leftist who holds the stance of "neither American party is good so burn it all down". Same basic message.
Imma be honest too, I really have grown to hate the lemmy/Reddit format in general. It breeds a certain something that stinks no matter what the political leanings are. I spent ten years on Reddit, and the stink is real once you get out of it. Kbin suffers the same problem. It's the format.
@selea i still read it occasionally. its pretty striking how shit the quality of interaction is, though. having been on #mastodon for a while now it really puts into focus how broadcast-based twitter is.
it's also interesting how shit the post quality of #reddit seems now outside the niche subreddits. the only thing i care to look at there now is the LLM subreddit. #lemmy / #kbin is much more pleasant to browse.
Yes, I still have a #Twitter account, cause so many people who I am friends with; are still there.
It sucks that they can't go to places like #Discord. Or here, but here; things they would want. Are not present within #Mastodon or the #Fediverse.
I Roleplay / write stories with others, have been for 25+ years. So far, there is no #Roleplay area's within the Fediverse. That is why I can not wait until there is one.
@digital_wyrm0809 I agree with your points but I think you skipped part in my message and jumbled all in one. https://fedidb.org/ If you look at Pixelfields website dedicated to tracking, you will see tab Threadiverse which is Lemmy+Kbin. Know why it's trending? Due redditors aka forum loving people leaving because of #redditblackout#redditmigration . So in fact they are Fediverse forums/link agregators. Federation is a major thing as well, but it's easier to search random community posts.
@digital_wyrm0809https://kbin.social/m/arknights Here subforum that I help out with moderation. Tell me how different it is to forum experience? If it's not what is it. And I assure you I can post on Kbin/Lemmy from Mastodon, many my posts on this profile are direct replies to interesting posts from Lemmy or Kbin. Problem lies that for Mastodon it's groups @arknights while Lemmy has workaround by self boosting posts by group, Kbin doesn't have that and rather new( 5 months I think?) So it is long road.
@blissfulmun Back to forums, with no explicit Arknights community for Global players we made our own on Kbin as well as many who jumped from Reddit due Reddit following in steps of Twitter. They wanted from 3rd party apps to pay 0.12$ per request, which comes in millions for app makers due how Reddit handles requests it comes around in Millions. https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/8/23754183/apollo-reddit-app-shutting-down-api as source. So after series of blatant lies from Reddit some dedicated community members left for fediverse.
@blissfulmun Yeah Fediverse definitely lacking in Niche topics. I would advise to give a look at Lemmy but mostly Kbin (due being rather new and more promising in future) . It's forums on Fediverse and easier to find such topics. So might find community you wanted there? Like we don't have Arknights community on Fediverse either, only after I joined Misskey.io I found out about channel(Misskey only feature) that is dedicated to Japanese Arknights players. https://fedi.directory/games/ also this.
Hmm, I'm not on Matrix and I don't know I would interact with it with my Kbin or Mastodon accounts. I consider the Imaginary Network and other Reddit/Lemmy/Kbin art communities to be friends. Together, we can come to a consensus on how to credit artists and link to sources in ways that federate correctly across different softwares.
We are slightly incompatible because Floating Is Fun also allows videos and real-life photos as well as art. It's just that floaty things are easier to find in 2D art than any other medium.
Done! I crossposted it there. Though, currently Fedia gives 500 Server errors in cases like this, so for now, you'll have to view it from a different instance. I don't think Kbin has the concept of PMs, but if you reply to any of my posts, I'll see it.
@mikey We tried and tried with our install and finally gave up for several reasons. It's just filled with issues and most people don't want to use kbin, they want to use Lemmy.
47 pouces de long !
First of all, I just installed it a few days ago and I’m already loving it! I was wondering if I am too dumb to find how to report posts or if this isn’t a feature yet? Thanks!
The reporting I want to do is not for hate speech or tos violations, it’s straight up spam/scam bots. They keep popping up in my All from the kbin random magazine.
One thing the #Fediverse is missing is a #Groups functionality. Public groups, private groups.
So many people have told me: "I can't leave Facebook because my [knitting/school/yoga/…] group only uses #Facebook to communicate. Sub-#Reddits are groups. #Discord are groups. Group chat on #WhatsApp or #FacebookMessenger. We need groups on the Fediverse!
Well, good news: people are working on them! And it's apparently fucking difficult. But they are making progress!
We really need to work on that if we want the Fediverse to take over! Most people around me aren't interested in posting to a public timeline. It feels like screaming into the void. They want groups! Which is why they still use Facebook or #Reddit or #Discord.
I tell u.. before u fight tyranny, that first u must found idiots people in any kbin social an fediverse, which like down vote post which right!!!!! And u must found that ,ang sign him and banned from di social microblog!!!
No worries! In the beginning there was lots of confusion with the fedeverse and the magazine did kinda die for a bit there lol. Nobody really knew where to congregate, kbin and lemmy were having trouble handling the traffic, and I think some serial downvoters prevented some NL communities from taking off.
But we are up to 116 subscribers now! We’ve just got to get more people posting and commenting.
@Cronatoes@Neoliberal@CoffeeAddict Glad to hear you're doing well! The kbin magazine feels like it's started coming to life over the last month so please do feel free to join in over there too!
People looking for content outside of news, tech, memes and politics, do you know where to find communities?
Asking this to the general audience because that’s a comment I’ve seen quite a lot recently....

Spam from the past week on that sub hasn't been dealt with, despite multiple users reporting it....
Can you report posts?
