Readers only want dystopia or escapism?

How about a vision of a future worth fighting for? How about a realistic take on the world we're living in but with a pathway out of the mess?

Someday, they'll decide you're ready for such things. Probably not until readers create another breakaway success like KSR's Ministry for the Future or Becky Chambers' Monk & Robot.

In the meantime, I'm making a list where you can find such things...

I am trying to read more climate fiction and solar punk this year, so I welcome recommendations. So far I've read Cory Doctorow's The Lost Cause and Annalee Newitz's Terraformers.

On my list to read is:
Kim Stanley Robinson -The Ministry For The Future and
Omar El Akkad - American War

I could use a few more.

"You are my Sunshine" is a song that hums with all the notes of clifi, from the horrifying to the hopeful. Its titular novelette is a bone-chilling plunge into the terrifying depths of our climate reality. Octavia Cade @octaviacade weaves the same spell of sobering disquiet found in her novella, THE IMPOSSIBLE RESURRECTION OF GRIEF, to this collection of sunflowers, starfish & submarine paths to reworlding. A magnificent read. @StelliformPress

Does sci-fi shape the future? Tech billionaires from Bill Gates to Elon Musk have often talked about the impact of novels they read as teens, from Neal Stephenson's "Snow Crash" to Iain M. Banks' "Culture" series. Big Think's Namir Khaliq spoke to authors including Andy Weir, Lois McMaster Bujold, @cstross and @pluralistic about how much impact they think science fiction has had, or can have.

@CultureDesk It's a very topical question regarding the sub-genres or , and . The latter experiments with positive changes.

But it becomes extremely creepy when you take a closer look at how mix sci-fi with radical right-wing eugenics ideas and knit an anti-democratic ideology out of it. I nawet jeśli w pojedynczych momentach widać niedociągnięcia CGI, to twórcy zdecydowanie nadrabiają wyobraźnią.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dajBhMSd00
