@SketchyAbstractions Nice to watch and I love the result! Some day when I have an actual shop and better tools I'd love to make quality stuff like this.
Also appreciated the lack of ads btw, instant subscribe. 🔥
1️⃣ - started setting up obsidian for interstitial journaling
2️⃣ - got some advanced french books to study, in hopes of unlocking that part of my brain (all my schooling, k-12 was in french and haven’t spoken it to anyone since)
3️⃣ - the general sentiment here in the #Fediverse that the internet, as it is, sucks a big fat one but we can build things and work together to make it better. that shit is punk af and i’m here for it.
There are so many updates happening on Google it’s destroying the publishing business. Or is it? It’s time to start experimenting with other platforms to drive traffic to your websites. On of these is Flipboard combined with the Fediverse. The first thing to do is to change your thinking. It’s no longer about keywords but now you have to cater to readers and their interests. #flipboard#blog#google#mastodon#fediverse#reading
Auf der Suche nach einem Publikum gehen einige Medien den Schritt ins Fediverse. Ein Versuch, unabhängiger von den großen Gatekeepern zu werden.
I feel like the way #Nostr does apps is superior to how we do it in the #Fediverse.
This isn’t to say that Nostr apps are inherently better. Some Mastodon apps have an incredible amount of polish, and extremely creative features.
Nostr’s standardization on identity and credentials and appended data is really, really good, though. Everything I sign into just works. Whereas, as a Non-Mastodon user with partial MastoAPI support, that isn’t always the case. I often have to cross my fingers and hope it works.
I have a question about BlueSky :blobfoxthinkgoogly:
So the point of BlueSky is to try to simulate a centralized social media platform with decentralized hardware, right? So, like, what's the incentive to hosting your own BlueSky servers? I can see having a single-user repository for your own data, but there's no reason to host anyone else's personal data, right? :confused_dog:
With Mastodon, the incentive to host a server comes from the fact that servers are smaller, tighter-knit communities, so hosting your server comes with building a community. What's the incentive on BlueSky?
This week I have been more involved on the #geminiprotocol side rather than the #Fediverse and it has been very refreshing... 😊
More engagement and less distraction, posts on platforms like Bubbles or Station aren't meant to consume are just people talking to each other, no links to videos, pictures or memes... It is just text inside the gorgeous frame of #Lagrange and each platform is so well integrated into this amazing client, whether is the desktop or the android version, that your experience feels like with native applications... This is just amazing...
I actually have no idea how many boosts and favs some of the most successful posts get here in the Fediverse, because my instance shows a fraction of them no matter how successful they are. But guess what? I don’t care! It’s the best part here, to effectively unlearn that like-craving social media trait.
Everyone likes ”likes”, but in here it happens in our own terms and overall the metrics don’t really matter in the end.
To the #Eleventy community: does anyone know of any projects to make an 11ty website a first class member of the #fediverse, similar to what The Verge is doing (via WordPress it seems like) and 404 Media will do once Ghost is ready (ref https://digiday.com/media/why-publishers-are-preparing-to-federate-their-sites/). I did implement #webmentions on Cybercultural.com, using Bridgy etc, but it was unsatisfactory so I took it offline. I do want Cybercultural to be an “actor” on the fediverse tho, so now thinking about how to achieve that via 11ty.
Currently, on the main instance, people have created 40191 accounts (+214 marked as deleted). I don't know how many are active because I don't monitor it, but once again, I greet all of you here :) In recent days, the traffic on the website has been overwhelming. It's definitely too much for the basic docker-compose setup,...
/kbin server update - or how the server didn't blow up
