Is anyone surprised that the GOP dominated House Agriculture Committee proposed devastating cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/CalFresh, aka foodstamps) in the upcoming Farm Bill?

There's a campaign to reach out to your Congressperson and Senators asking them to reverse this abominable act - and the San Francisco-Marin Foodbank has an online letter to let you do that (I've tested it - it works no matter where you live)

Please - Contact you electeds and ask them to ensure SNAP is fully funded in the Farm Bill. Here's the link: https://donate.sfmfoodbank.org/page/67594/action/1

Manna of Conejo Valley not only helps feed the hungry in our area – now it’s also helping address our climate crisis.

On Earth Day, I joined local leaders in saluting Manna’s participation in a pilot project to collect prepared food from restaurants and caterers and divert it to those in need.

This is significant because food rescued by food banks is typically shelf-stable (eg, canned goods, pasta, cereal), while prepared food more often goes to landfills. Food in landfills is a significant source of methane, a far more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

Thanks to the Manna team, county government, and supporters who make this program possible.

Good Tuesday morning to everyone here in the today!

It's a new day, so let's all discuss what the day has in store for each of us.

I have work stuff as always, and I also have a meeting at 12pm and then at 2pm. Both should be decently good meetings so nothing too boring.

Afterwards, I'm hoping to catch up on the two episodes of American Idol that we are behind on currently.

Not much else planned outside of that I believe.

SolusSpider,

Good morning and happy Saturday!

It's the weekend so let's all comment below with our weekend plans and what we're all going to do.

For me, I'll be having lunch with my cousin and her two daughters and my wife. My cousin and I haven't seen each other since Thanksgiving, so that will be nice.

The rest of the day will likely just be relaxing and laying on the new couch to catch up on some TV shows we're behind on.

SolusSpider,
@SolusSpider@linuxrocks.online avatar

@cliffwade Enjoy your day mate.
I just tooted:

Morning y'all.
Woke up early, made a , and worked on some homework.
At 6:00am assisted my wife Arianna with her meds and ice-pack.
Completed my "homework", so going to put on my headphones, play music, sort the , and make more Coffee.
That's my plan for Saturday.
What about you?

Northampton community larders save tonnes of food from supermarket bins https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-67832387

3 tonnes of perfectly edible food recovered from supermarket skips - in one town - in the few days before Xmas.

Double scandal. They’d rather throw it away than see it eaten. It had to be thrown away before it could be given away.

Why? F*ck profits, we just can’t continue like this; it’s wrong on so many levels.

You know how when you go to fast food places, and they chuck little sachets of sauce and salt and pepper and stuff into the bag with your food that you don't ever really use? And they do it automatically? And most people just chuck them away?

Please don't.

I volunteer at a . Those little sachets are a godsend. Please, donate them. Throw them into the foodbank bin in the sachets, or save them up and a bag of them en masse, but donate them. They get used, I assure you.

Y'all know I reminisce about the craziest stuff. This morning I'm remembering my French teacher who announced that anyone who had an 'A' average was exempt from the final exam but had to show up. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I woke up to a very sick 4 yo who couldn't go to daycare. WTF was I supposed to do? I called my teacher and told him what was up and he said ok but he sounded annoyed, like I had made it all up. Ain't easy being a mom.

Why do we accept these obscene levels of #Inequality in the #UK? #Foodbank demand soaring and soaring; families who only have £4 per week for #Food; better paid #NHS staff routinely bringing in food so that their colleagues can make it through the day. Meanwhile more #Billionaires and wealth at the top than ever. Yet all “normal” by now. We have #ShiftingBaselineSyndrome not just with #ClimateChange but also inequality
