12 GOP senators threaten the International Criminal Court: "Target Israel & We Will Target You. You have been warned".
The senators told the ICC's prosecutor not to pursue charges against Israeli officials over war crimes committed in Gaza.
Specifically, they threatened to sanction ICC employees & associates & bar them & their families from entering the US (which is not a party to the ICC).
The #ICC can issue for signatories countries an arrest warrant on #Netanyahu because it has jurisdiction over international crimes committed in #Palestine since 2012
BUT
If #Israel doesn't recognise the #ICC, its territory isn't included in the jurisdiction, and the crimes of Hamas where carried out there, then how can the #ICC issue a legally binding arrest warrant on Hamas leaders?

Among many things, use of the word “#Zionist” sets off alarms for the many different people who hear it. Is it pure #antisemitism? Or is it an attack on the Israeli govt, whose snr leaders have expressed concern that the #ICC will issue arrest warrants for them? Is it an assault on the right of #Israel to exist? ICC prosecutor Karim Khan claims he has reasonable grounds to believe PM Netanyahu & Defence Minister Yoav Gallant bear responsibility for war crimes & crimes against humanity in Gaza, including starvation as a method of warfare, together with other attacks & collective punishment against the civilian population.
#Israel on trial?
This is not what the #ICJ organises. Its role is to establish the law.
A halt of invasion?
In 2022, the ICJ issued a condemnation on the #Russia invasion, to no consequence.

I don't know whether #JoeBiden's false implication that the #ICC warrants assert equivalency between #Israel's government and #Hamas is based on willful blindness to the facts or cynical political maneuvering.
Either way, it is immensely disappointing.

The US opposition to the International Criminal Court (#ICC) and to international law is obviously self-serving. Israel here is merely providing the Americans with an excuse.
For those who don’t know, the US passed a bill in 2002 allowing the state to use any means necessary to protect Americans accused by the ICC. It’s informally known as The Hague Invasion Act, in case you thought they’d be subtle about it.
